This invention appertains to new and useful improvements in attachments for telephones and more particularly to means for supporting a register in a convenient manner so that the number of toll calls and local calls during the course of a given period of time can be registered.
The principal object of this inventlon 1s to provide means for conveniently attaching the recorder to a telephone instrument.
During the course of the following specification and claim, other important objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader.
In the drawing Figure 1 represents a top plan view of the recorder and clamp ring.
Fig. 2 represents a front elevational view of the recorder and clamp ring and further showing in broken lines a telephone of the front type engaged by the clamp ring.
Fig. 3 represents a cross sectional view taken substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to the recorder instrument on which the keys 6 are mounted and on which the operating lever 7 is mounted in the usual manner. The mechanism of this recorder forms no particular part of this invention, and it is to be understood that any well known recording instrument of the calculating type can be employed, as the gist of the present invention resides in the means for securing such a device to a telephone instrument.
In Fig. 1, a split annulus 8 is provided, the ends of which are bent laterally to provide lugs 9 through which an adjusting screw 10 can be disposed. The annulus 8 is secured to the recorder 5 by a rivet or a screw 11 and as is clearly shown in Fig. 1, the annulus 8 is provided at its upper edge portion with inwardly disposed lips 12 which are adapted to bear against the base portion 13 of a telephone instrument as in the manner shown in Fig. 2.
Inwardly disposed lugs 14 are provided on the annulus 8 for engagement against the bottom or base side of the instrument and Serial No. 535,727.
these also serve as rests for the telephone instrument.
WVhile the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter, and furthermore, the locking feature involving the padlock 21, shown in Fig. 5, can be used in conjunction with the other forms illustrated or in fact, any other form or forms within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is An attaching clamp for telephones of the upwardly tapering base type comprising a transversely split ring, adjustable fastening means between the ends of the ring, whereby the ring can be clamped to the base, said ring being provided at its upper edge portion with inwardly and upwardly extending portions defining projections for engaging against a reduced portion of the said base and at its lower edge with inwardly disposed lugs for engaging the bottom of the base.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
FRANK EDl/VARD VANDERHOOF.
