With reference more in detail to the drawings it will be seen that I have shown my invention applied to an electric iron although ported handle 6.

The iron herein shown for the purpose of illustration is a more or less conventional type of electric iron and is designated generally :by the reference character 5. The iron 5 includes among other parts a suitably sup- In accordance with the present invention the handle 6 is provided with a longitudinal bore or opening 7, andadjacent the forward end of the handle the same is provided with a notch8.
Suitably fitted within the notch 8 is a fluid reservoir 9 provided at its top with a bin ed lid 11, and at its bottom with a dependmg outlet neck 12 having oppositely extending arcuate ears or rojections 1.3.
A substantial y semi-cylindrical combined guide and shut-ofillplate 14 is tapered toward one end and at sai one end is provided with an arm 15. Mounted to reciprocate within the opening of bore 7 is a tube 18 that is provided on opposite sides with longitudinal ooves 19 with which areengaged inward y directed flanges 20 provided on the largest end of the plate 14.
By reason of the engagement of flanges 20 with groove 19 tube 18 is returned against rotative movement and constrained to shift lon itudinally of the bore 7. y
uitably arranged within the bore 7 is a flat bar 21 provided on one end with a plunger 22 normally arranged within the inner end of the tube 18. Tube 18 at its inner end is normally engagedwiith a collar 23 provided on the bar 21 rearwardly of the plunger22. Collar 23-is slidable on the bar 21 and is 1101'? mally urged into engagement with said-inner end of the tube 18 by means of a coil spring'24 disposed about the bar 21 between s ray nozzle designated by the reference the tube connecting the sides 27 at-the base of c aracter 26. In the present instance spray nozzle 26 comprises a tube, preferably a copr tube, bent into a substantial triangle and aving the sides 27 tapering as they lproceed toward the apex of the triangle. e largest ends of the sides 27 are at the apex of the triangle and at said ends the sides of the tube are united in any suitable manner with the forward end of the tube 18. The part 270 of the triangle is provided with a plurality of spaced discharge apertures 28. The sides 27 of the tube forming part of the nozzle 26 are curved downwardly and forwardly from the tube 18 as shown in Figure 2. The sides 27 of the aforementioned tube are also connected by suitably curved upper and lower plates 29, and as apparent from a study of Figure 1 the nozzle in plan is of general fan shape and a fan shaped spray emanates therefrom so as to dampen the cloth for substantially the width of the widest portion of the iron 5 as will also be clear from a study of Figure 1. At thejunction ,of the nozzle tube 26 and tube 18, the inlet of the nozzle tube is formed as at 27 b to provide a baflie in order to retard the flow of the water or other dampening liquid and prevent a discharge from the nozzle when the device is not in actual operation.
For retracting the tube 18, the latter is provided with a laterally directed curved finger piece 30 operating within'a slot 31 provided in the side of the handle 6 as shown in Figure 3.
In actual practice the reservoir 9 is filled to the desired level with water, perfume or the like for use in dampening the article of apparel or the like being pressed. Normally the arts are in the position shown in Figure 2. en it is desired to dampen the article of apparel or the like in advance of the iron 5 the operator by pulling on the finger piece 30 in the direction of the arrows in Figure 1 or 3 causes a movement of the tube 18 inwardly of the bore 7 against the action of spring 25 thus moving the inlet opening 18a provided in the to of the tube 18 out of alinement with the ischarge neck 12 resulting in a cutting off of the flow of liquid from the reservoirQ to the tube 18. Obviously as the tube 18 moves toward the right in Figure 2 and relative to the plunger 22 the water in the tube 18 will be forced under pressure through the tube of the nozzle 26 to discharge therefrom through the apertures 28 in the form of a fan like spray as shown in Figure 1 thus dampening the cloth in advance of the iron 5 and for substantially the width of the widest part of the iron. Manifestly upon release of the finger piece 30 the 'ure 2 thus alining the tube 18 under action of spring 25 will be returned to its normal position shown in Fi otpeening 180 with e neck 12 and the liquid, it water, perfume or the like, in the reservoir 9 will then tate through the neck into the tube 18, and the parts are then in position for a subse- (1111161112 dampenlng of the article of apparel or t e like.
Even though I have herein shown anddescribed the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of further changes, modifications and improvements coming within the scape of the appended claims.

1. In combination with the handle of a sadiron, a receptacle mounted on said handle and provided in its bottom with an outlet, a
tube mounted to reciprocate within a longi-.
tudinal bore provided in the handle and havmg an inlet aperture on its topside normally alined with said outlet but movable out of alinement with said outlet when the tube is shifted, a plunger fixed with respect to said handle and mounted in said bore and normally arranged within the inner end of said tube,
sprin means normally urging said tube outwar y with respect to said bore, a spray nozzle on the outer end of said tube, and manual means for shifting said tube against the action of said spring means.
2. In combination with a sadiron and a handle therefor having a bore extending lonavigitudinally thereof, of a tube open at its ends 1 and constrained to shift longitudinally of said bore, a plunger fixed with respect to said handle, arranged in said bore, and normally disposed within the inner end of said tube, elastic means engaging the inner end of the tube and normally urging the same outwardly,relative to said bore, ravity flow means for supplying liquid to said tube, means controlling communication between said gravity flow supply means and said tube, a nozzle on the outer end of said tube, and a finger piece extendinglaterally from the tube and operating in a longitudinal slot provided in the handle to facilitate shifting of the tube against the action of said elastic means.
3. A sadiron comprising in combination a handle provided with a bore extending lengthwise thereof, a receptacle mounted on said handle and provided with a dischar neck opening into said bore, a tube slidab y arranged in said bore and having an opening normally alined with said discharge neck but movable out of. alinement with the neck when the tube is shifted, a downwardly and forwardl extending spray nozzle on the outer end 0 said tube, means for reciprocating said tube, and plunger means arranged in and tube in fixed operative relation to said handle for forcing liquid through the tube and the dischargenozzle upon movement of the tube relative tothe plunger in one direction.
4. A sadiron, a handle having an opening extending longitudinally therethrough, a stationary rod arranged in said opening provided at one end with a plunger fixed thereon, a tube shiftable relative to said rod and having an end arranged in said bore and receiving said plun er, a spray nozzle on the outer end of said tu e, guide'means on said handle engaging said tube whereby the latter is constrained to shift longitudinally only of said bore, means for shifting said tube, means for supplying liquid to said tube for discharge therefrom under pressure upon movement of the tube inwardly of the bore and relative to .said rod, and means for shutting off the supply of liquid to said tube when the latter is shifted for discharging the liquid'from said nozzle.
5. The combination with a sadiron, of spray means carried by said sadiron including a fixedly mounted reservoir provided with an outlet, a tube mounted in operative position to the reservoir and shiftable relative to said sadiron and being also provided with an aperture normally alined with the outlet of the reservoir, but movable out of alinement with said outlet when the tube is shifted, plunger means at the inner end of said tube fixed relative to said sadiron for forcing fluid from the tube upon movement of the latter in one direction, combined guide and shut off means fixedly mounted in operative position to the tube to guide the opening in the tube into and out of registration with the outlet of the reservoir and to shut off the aperture in the tube when the aperture is out of registration with said reservoir outlet, manual means for shifting said tube, and a spray nozzle on the outer end of the tube.
