This invention relates generally to electrical apparatus such as fuse panel boards and the like.
One of the essential objects of the invention is to provide a panel board having a casing or cabinet of metal that is adapted to be grounded when installed and that contains a plurality of individual metalclad switch and fuse units that are constructed and secured to the cabinet in such a waythat all parts accessible when the units are closed are grounded and each unit presents a dead interior when opened.
Another object is to provide a panel board wherein the. individual units aforesaid are separately removable and are interchangeable.
Other objects, advantages and novel details of construction of this invention will be made more apparent as this description proceeds, especially when considered'in con- .nection with the accompanying drawings,

Referring now to the drawings, A is a cabinet and B, C and D respectively are switch and fuse units of a panel board embodying my invention. As shown, the cabinet 1 is constructed of sheet metal and is provided at the front thereof with a swinging door 1 having a handle 2 and suitable latch mechanism 3. 4 and 5 respectively are laterally spaced metal rails secured directly to the back 6 of the cabinet, and 7 is a partition extending lengthwise of the cabinet substantially midway of the front and back theregrounded when installed by a suitable ground wire 13. However, any suitable pipe conduit connections may be used for this purpose.
The units B, C and D respectively are removable and interchangeable and are received within the openings 8, 9 and 10 respectively. Preferably each unit has a metal casing 14 secured directly to the metal rails 4 and 5 and provided at the front thereof with swin ing doors 15 and 16 provided with handles 1. and 18 respectively and latch mechanism 19 and 20. Within each casing 14 is an insulator block 21 through which connectors 22 and 23 from suitable bus bars 24, 25 and 26 extend and upon which are mounted an auxiliary insulator block 27, fuse clips 28, 29,30, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 35 respectively, connectors 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 42 and 43 respectively and electrical conductor terminals 44, 45, 46 and 47 respectively. As shown, the bus bar connectors 22 and 23 have spaced substantially flat portions 48, 49, 50 and 51 respectively projecting forwardly into suitable openings 52, 53, 54 and 55 respectively within the auxiliary insulator block 27 and constituting switch contacts, and the connectors 36, 37, 38 and 39 respectively are secured to the clips 28, 29, 30 and 31 respectively and have substantially flat portions 56, 57, 58 and 59 respectively projecting forwardly upon the outer sides of the auxiliary insulator block 27 in substantially parallel relation to the contacts 48, 49, 50 and 51 respectively and constituting cooperating switch contacts. The connectors 40, 41, 42 and 43 respectively are secured to the fuse clips 32, 33, 34 and 35 respectively and the conductor terminals 44, 45, 46 and 47 respectively are secured to the connectors 40, 41, 42 and 43 respectively and are received within suitable openings 60, 61, 62 and 63 respectively in the casing. 64 and 65 respectively are insulator blocks adj ustably mounted on the doors 15 and 16 and 66, 67, 68 and 69 respectively are substantially U-shaped steel reinforced switch contacts carried by said insulator blocks 64 and 65 and engage able with the contacts 48, 49, 50, 51, 56, 57,
58 and 59 respectively aforesaid when the doors are closed.
In use, the cabinet A is grounded when installed and the connections between said respectively are such that each unit is grounded to the cabinet, consequently when the doors 15 and 16 of the units are closed grounded parts only are presented and accessible. When the doors 15 and 16 of the units are opened the switch contacts carried by the doors are separated from the switch contacts on the insulator block 21. Consequently the circuits are broken and the exposed electrical parts are electrically dead. It will, therefore, be appreciated that I have provided a panel board that is safe and affords absolute protection to the user.
What I claim as my invention is:
1. A panel board having a groundable cabinet, bus bars in said cabinet, and a switch and fuse unit in the cabinet in front of said bus bars and including a metal casing open at the back and receiving the bus bars and provided at the front thereof with hinged closure means, an insulator block extending longitudinally of the casing between the bus bars and closure means, fuse clips spaced apart on said insulator block and extending toward said closure, means, strap connectors extending from the bus bars through the block and having portions forming switch contacts, connectors extending from certain of the fuse clips and having portions cooperating with the portions just mentioned of the bus connectors to form switch contacts, and switch contacts carried by said closure means and operable when the closure means is closed to engage the switch contacts aforesaid and close a circuit between the bus bars and fuse clips.
2. A panel board having a groundable cabinet, rails located, within and secured to the back of said cabinet, bus bars in said cabinet, and a switch and fuse unit in the cabinet in front of said bus bars and including a metal casing secured to said rails, receiving the bus bars and provided at the front thereof with hinged doors, an insulator block extending longitudinally of the casing between the bus bars and doors, fuse clips spaced apart. on said insulator block, strap connectors extending from the bus bars through the block and having portions extending toward the doors and forming switch contacts, connectors extending from certain of the fuse clips and having portions extending toward the doors and cooperating with the por- Zions just mentioned of the bus connectors to form switch contacts, and switchcontacts carried by the doors and operable when the doors are closed to engage the switch con tacts aforesaid and close a circuit between the 65 bus bars and fuse clips.
