This invention relates to a radio secretary which can be used with any radio cabinet that stands on the floor, the general object of the invention being to provide a compartment in the lower part of the cabinet normally closed by a door which can be raised and held in a horizontal position so that the door can be used as a shelf or as a desk.
This invention also consists in certain other 10 features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended clain In describing the invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or' parts throughout the several corresponding views, and in which Figure 1 is a front view of the invention. Fig. 2 is a view of the lower part thereof showing the door in raised position.
Fig. 3 is a vertical sectional view through p the lower part of the cabinet with the door in closed position in full lines and shown in two of its horizontal positions in dotted lines.
Fig. 4 is a section on line 44 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a horizontal sectional view with the door in raised position.
Fig. 6 is a view of the door. Fig. 7 is a fragmentary view of the door with parts removed to show the latch means. Fig. 8 is a sectional view through the door showing the latch means.
Fig. 9 is a detail vertical sectional view showing the latch means.
Fig. 10 is a fragmentary edge view of that means pro ects.
In these drawings, the letter A indicates the radio cabinet as a whole and the letter B indicates the compartment formed in the part of the door through'which the latch lower part of the cabinet and-which may con-' tain the shelves 1 and the drawers 2. A door C is provided for closing the front" of the compartment and said door has a pair of pins 3, one in each side edge thereof, and adjacent one end thereof, thepins jacent that end of the door which is'lowermost when the door is in closing position. Z 6, the door will be held in horizontal position 10o opening.
being located ad- .Guideways 4. are formed in the inner'faces of the front corner members. 5 of the cabinet for receiving the pins, and horizontal guideways 6 are formed in the side members 7 extending horizontally from front to rear at the. top. of the'compartment B. The front ends of these guideways 6 communicate with the upper ends of the guideways 4 so that by swinging the door downwardly into horizoni Y tal positioniand then moving the door upwardly, the pins .3 will pass up'vvardly through the guideways 4and then by pushing the door inwardly the'pins will pass into the guideways 6.
The door is formed with an opening 8 which extends from one side edge of the door through the other' side thereof and substantially at the center of they door and is preferably" of the shape shown in Fig. 7. If de: sired, the door-can be formed; of inner and 7 outer= sections suitably fastened together with the opening 8 formed in the adjacent faces of thetWo sections. A bushing 9 is placed in: each end of the 7 A knob or handle 10 is rotatably supportedby a plate- 11 attached to the central part of the front face of the door and covering an opening which communicates with the opening8 and said handle has a cross piece 12 connected to its inner end. A 30 rod 13 has its inner end pivoted to each end of the cross piece'12 andsaid rods pass through the bushings 9 when the rods are projected and their outer ends will be slight- 'ly drawn within the bushings when the rods are moved inwardly'by'the turning of the cross piece by the handle. 'The'projected ends of the 'rodsl3'will engage the guideways 4 when the door is invertical position to lock the door in this position and by turningthe handle in a certain direction the rods will be I moved inwardly so that the .door' can be swung downwardly and then when it reaches horizontal position, it can be moved upwardly, still in a horizontal position and '95 then moved inwardly to cause the pins 3 to engage the guideways'6. g 1
Then by projecting the rods .13 so that their outer ends will engage the guideways so that it can be used as a shelf or as a desk.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of the invention will be readily apparent.
5 It is to be understood that changes may be madein the construction and inthe combination and arrangement of the several parts provided that such changes fallv within the scope of the appended claim.
10 Having thus described my invention what I claim as new is: I I
A cabinet having a' compartment therein, with an opening at the front of the compartment, the side walls of the opening having v 15 vertical guideways therein and the side walls of the compartment having horizontally arranged guideways therein adjacent the top of the compartment, the outer ends of which are in communication with the upper ends 29 0f the first-mentioned guideways, a door A having pins in its side edges adjacent the lower end'of the door for fitting in the guideways, whereby the door can be swung down ward'ly and outwardly and then moved up- Zi wardlyfto cause the pins to passupwardly through the vertical guideways until they come into alignment with the horizontal guideways, after which the door can be moved inwardly to cause the pins to enter- 9, the horizontal guideways and bolt means carr-iedby the door and engaging the horizontal guideways, when'projected to support the door in a horizontal positionwitha part projecting forwardly from. the cabinet to 5.;form a shelf or desk, the said bolt means, when projected, with the door in vertical position for closingthe opening, engaging the vertical guideways for holding the'door in closing position. V
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
