ADDISON BRADFORD, on AMSTERDAM, NEW YORK.
lMPRbVEMEfNT-iN INDICATORS FOR ELECTRIC BURGLAR-ALARMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. R 89,993, dated April 24, 1877; application filed January 20, 1877.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, ADDISON BRADFORD, of Amsterdam, in the county of Montgomery and State of New York, have invented new and useful Improvements in Indicators for Electric Alarms; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of an indicator, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the Same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawings, in which- Figure l is a perspective elevation of my invention. Fig. 2 is an open perspectiveview of the same. Figs. 3, 4, and 5 are sectional views; and Fig. 6 shows the back of the indicator.
.A G D represent a box, D being a shelf for the alarm. B B B B are knobs, thefront end being marked with the name or number of the rooms or place that they severally represent or indicate. Through A pass the rods a a a a, around which are springs d d d at, one end coming against the inside of A. A pin, '5, passes through rod on at the other extremity of spring d, to hold it to its proper place. Spring (1 is for the purpose of carrying rod a to its place when released, after having been pulled out by knob B. b is a groove in A for pin b to pass in. Pin b in rod a i'sfor the purpose of holding rod (1 out when turned from groove b, so as to break the electric circuit, thereby leaving one part of the building unprotected, while the rest is protected. Up. on the inside of U are springs c c 0 c c c c c in pairs, so fastened to G as not to come in contact with each other. The Springs 0 c c c are connected to each other by wire f, passing through 0 at f to h on the back of the indicator;
From springs c c c 0 pass wires 9 g g 9 through 0 to h h h h. Thesescrews h h h h and h are for the connection of the wires from the different parts of the building and battery. The rods (1 a a a have metallic ends 0 e e c, which are held by springs 01 d d cl in close contact with the Springs 0 c c c c c 0 c, to complete the circuit, which would be otherwise broken by springs c c not touching each other.
The wires runningfrom the various connecing, bydrawing the metallic end 0 of rod on from its connection with the metallic springs c 0, thereby breaking the circuit that had been closed and caused the alarm to be given.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination, in an indicator for electric alarms, the box A G D, with knobs B B B B, rodsa a a a, springs 01 d d d, pin b, groove b, springs c c c c c c c c, with the necessary electric connecting-wires, substantially as and for the purpose herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 18th day of January, 1877.
