JUDSON D. GARLOOK, OF PALMYRA, NEXV YORK, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO THE GARLOOK PACKING COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
CIRCUIT-CLOSER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 617,287, dated January 3, 1899.
Application filed April 22, 1898. Serial No. 678,525. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, J UDSON D. GAnLocK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Palmyra, in the county of Wayne and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Circuit-Closers, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and shown in the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in circuit-closers; and the novelty resides in the peculiar construction and the combinations and arrangement of parts, all as are fully hereinafter described,
I 5 shown in the drawings, and then particularly pointed out in the claim.
Referring to the drawings, Figure l is a face view of the device with parts broken away. Fig. 2 is a View of the same as seen looking no in the direction of the arrow 2 in Fig. 1. Fig.
3 is a radial section of the face-ring and associated parts.
Like letters of reference indicate like parts in the different views.
a is the box or case of the device, at the front circular edge of which is an annular seat 0, upon which is placed the flaring facering I), adapted to be turned in either direction upon the said case. The face-ring is shown as well fitted and held to place upon the case by friction in order that the facering may be turnedindependently of the box or case to any desired position. The facering carries a pair of studs d h, Figs. 1 and 2,
5 terminating in bent wires or). These studs are held by a face-plate f, secured to the ring 12, parallel with the face 9 of the indicator, as seen best in Fig. One of these studs is held rigidly to place, while the other stud h 0 passes through an elongated opening or slot 70 and is made adjustable, so that the distance between the studs may be varied.
g is the glass face of the device.
Either the contacts c or 2' or the pointer should be insulated from the case.
The terminal wires 6 i are in position to be encountered by the pointer Z of the indicator, its free end being between said wires. If the pressure fall, for instance, at any time, the pointer will turn to the left and touch the terminal 6, or should the pressure increase the pointer will be brought into contact with the opposite terminal 6.
The face-ring Z) being adapted to be turned in either direction upon the case a, the pointer 5 5 1 may be held at any position over the dial, thus serving to maintain the pressure at any predetermined number of pounds to the square inch. For instance, if a pressure of fifty pounds be required the face-ring will be turned so the fifty mark on the dial will ap pear between the terminals 6 and i. Similarly the terminals may be turned to cover a mark on the dial indicating any other de* sired pressure.
that I claim as my invention is Ina device of the character described, the combination with an indicator-case having an annular seat, of a flaring face=ring mounted upon said seat to be turned in either direotion, a face-plate secured to said ring parallel with the glass face of the indicator, a stud held rigidly in said face-plate and terminat ing within the case in a curved end, a wire connected with the outer end of said stud, and a second stud carried by the face-plate and adjustable to and from the other stud with its inner end within the case curved toward the curved end of the other stud, and a wire connected to the outer end of the said stud, and a pointer adapted to vibrate be tween the curved ends of said studs, all sub tantially as and for the purpose specified.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand, this 9th day of April, 1898, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
JUDSON D. GARVLOOK. Witnesses:
