Description
Feb. 28, 1933. M. s. MANHARD 1,899,284
DISPLAY DEVICE Filed April 1, 1932 INVENT OR.
Patented Feb. 28, 1933 PATENT OFFICE? MITCHELL S. HANHARD, 01 SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA DISPLAY DEVICE Application filed April 1,
This invention relates to improvements in display devices and has particular reference to an arcuate display device adapted to be placed about the neck of a milk bottle or similar container.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a device of pliable material that will engage the neck portion of the bottle and lie flat against the curved portion thereof A further object is to provide a device which may carry advertising matter.
A further object is to provide simple means for fastening the ends thereof together.
A still-further object is to produce a device which is simple in construction, economical to manufacture and highly efiicient in use.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Fig. 1 is a plan view of one form of my device,
Fig. 2 is a plan view of a modified form of my device,
Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing my device in use, the milk bottle being shown in dotted lines, and
Fig. 4 is a view similar to Fig. 3, showing the modified form ofmy device with the milk bottle omitted.
As milk bottles are distributed every day, it is evident that advertising matter displayed thereon would be of great value, for it is a well known fact that repetition in advertising is a great factor. I have therefore designed a very simple advertising carrying medium which may be placed around the neck of a bottle, which will lie close thereto, and therefore will not interfere with the handling of the bottles. Further by the provision of this 5 unique fastening means I have devised a securing arrangement whereby the display device will remain upon the bottles without being accidentally displaced therefrom during transportation.
In the accompanying drawing wherein for 1932. Serial No. 802,511.
the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a blank having arcuate margins 6 and 7 The ends of the blank have provided thereon tabs-8 and 9 that are cut so as to provide notched recesses 10. In the modified form shown in Fig. 2 the construction is identical with the exception that the notched tabs are so arran edthat one'of the notches is at the end 0 the blank as shown at 11, while the notch at the opposite end enters from the margin 6 as shown at 12. The blanks thus formed and having any desired advertising indicia thereon, are placed around the neck of the bottle by hooking the two ends of the blank so that their notches engage each other as illustrated in Figs. 3 and 4.
It will thus be seen that I have created a device which will accomplish all the objects above set forth.
It is to be understood that the forms of my invention herewith shownand described are to be taken as preferred example of the same and that various changes relative to the material, size, shape and arrangements of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claims. 4 80 Having thus described my invention, I claim 2- 1. An advertising device of the class described comprising a strip of pliable material adapted to be folded into a truncated. cone to rest upon the shoulder of a bottle, the ends of said strip being provided with interlocking means comprising tongues extending from and projecting in the plane of the strip, arcuate slits disposed between said tongues and the strip proper, said slits being designed to interfit and said tongues to lay flat against said cone in a vertical plane one above the other.
2. An advertising device of the class described comprising a strip of pliable material adapted to be folded into a truncated cone to rest upon the shoulder of a bottle, the ends of said strip being provided with inter locking means in which one end of the strip is notched at substantially its middle portion,
said notch extending into a slit prescribin an arc projecting upwardly, and a note disposed in the inner edge of the strip adjacent its opposite end, said notch extending 5 into a slit prescribing a substantial are extendin outwardly toward the extreme end of saif strip.
In testimon whereof I afiix my signature.
MKTCHELL S. MANHARD.
