Description

K. C.' MOGEE Feb. 21, 1933.
DANCING'TOY Filed Sept. 16, 1931 ATTORNEY.
Patented Feb. 21, 1933 means! UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE KAY CONEY MCGEE, OF LAUREL HILL, NORTH CAROLINA, ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-FOURTH T0 IPAUL B. EATON, OF CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA DANCING TOY Application filed September 16, 1931. Serial No. 5631083.
This invention relates to a dancing toy and more especially to a suspended representation of a human being with means for causing a reciprocating member to impart vibration to said representation of a human being to cause the Vfeet of said representation or figure to simulate the action of dancing when engaging a platform immediately below the feet of the gure. y v
An object of this invention is to provide a dancing toy with means for imparting vibration to said toy to cause the same to simulate a dancing figure due to the vibration imparted to said figure. Y
Some of the objects of the invention having been stated, other objects will appear as the description proceeds when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a front elevation of the.
device with parts broken away for sake of clearness;
Flgure 2 is a vertical sectional view taken n along the line 2 2 in Figure 1;
Figure 3 is' a cross sectional view taken along the line 3 3 in Figure 1;
Figure 4 is a cross sectional View taken along the line 4- 4 in Figure .1; t
Figure 5 is a vertical sectional view taken along the line 5 5 in Figure 1;
Figure 6 is a View taken along the line 6 6 in Figure 1, with a portion thereof broken away for clearness;
Figure 7 is a view looking from along the line 7 7 in Figure 1, showing a side elevation of the iigure.
Referring more specifically to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates a base member having a metal covering in thel form of a sheet metal plate 11 with upright supports 12 and 13'witl1 a board or plate 14 secured along the -front side of these supports, on which a display surface is provided for advertlsements .and the like. On the rear side of the uprights 12 and 13 is a board 16 and to the rear surface of board 14 is secured a bracket 17 on which is mounted a motor such as an electric motor 18 receiving current thru wires 19 and 20 which motor has a pulley 2l thereon on which a belt 22 is mounted which belt passes over pulley 23 mounted on a shaft 24 and said shaft is supported in board 16 and bracket 25, the lower end of said bracket being secured to board 16.' Said shaft has a pmion 26 secured thereon which meshes with a gear 27 mounted on shaft 28:l Supported in like lnanner as shaft 24 and this shaft after penetrating board 16 has a wheel 28 secured vthereon having a pin 29 therein on which a connecting rod 30 is pivoted, the other end of this connecting rod being pivotally mounted as at 31 on reciprocating member 32 which is slidably mounted in a guide 33 secured on the inside face of board 16.
On the lower end of reciprocating member 32 is secured a entf 33 and in the lower end of this cuff a. fibrous or leather member 34 is secured which is adapted to engage the leather or fibrous member 35 suspended by cords or other suitable material 36 and 37, the cord 36 being secured in an eye bolt ,38 with a 'thumb nut 39 for adjusting the position of the eyebolt, and cord 37 is secured to an eye bolt 40 in member 13, with thumb nut 41, so that by turning thumb nuts 41 and 39 the tautess of the cords 36 and 37 can be adjusted to elevate the figure 45 suspended ordinarily be the case, as these will be loosened somewhat to let the feet of the figure bear slightly on the platform 11. The-*tigure 45 has the arms 50 and 51 pivotally mounted at the shoulder portions of figure 45 with the fore arm portions 52 and 53 pivotally secured to the arms 50 and 51, -anda pin 54 penetrates the lower portion of the torso 45 of the figure. and cut-away portions 56 and 57 appear in the lower end of the torso, and members 5S and 5S) are pivotally mounted on the pin 54, andthe knee portions are hollowed out as at 60 1n which an eye bolt 61 is secured and another eye bolt 62 engages eye bolt 61 and is secured into leg portion 63, said leg portion having a foot p0rtion 64 on the lower end thereof.

- Thigh portion 59 has a. similar knee joint as just described and has a leg portion 65 secured thereto in the same manner with a foot 56 on the lower end thereof. 5 In operation, the reciprocating member 32 with the fibrous portion 34 on the lower end thereof, engages the member 35 and imparts vibration to the dancing figure 45 and causes said figure to move and the feet of the figure engage the platform in varying degrees, de-
pending upon the tension of cords 36 and 37 to simulate various steps and styles of dancing. It is evident that this can be operated by a spring-wound motor or any other suitable form of motor power as desired.
In the drawing andspecification there has been set forth a preferred embodiment ofthe invention and although specific terms are employed, they are used in a generic and'descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation, the scope of the invention being. set forth in the appended claim.
I claim:
In an amusement device, a framework hav- 25' ing a platform, a resilient, flexible member having its ends adjustably secured to the framework at a point above the platform, a loose-j ointed toy in the form of a human being, means for securing the head of the toy to the central portion of said resilient Hexible member so as to cause the feet of the toy to lightly engage said platform, a vertically reciprocating member mounted in said framework for intermittently striking said resilient flexible member and means for imparting movement to said vertically reciprocating member.
In testimony whereof I affix my si ature.
