My invention relates to a new and useful improvement in fiber spoons and has for its object to provide a spoon of this description which shall be rigid and serviceable and which will be easily held when in use.

A further object of the invention is to provide a handle for a fiber spoon having flanges extending along the edges thereof to give strength against sidewise strains and 19 which will give the general appearance of present day metal spoons and which will also be of such shape as to be conveniently grasped and retained in the hand of the user.

With these and other ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claim.

In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, I Will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application,

in which Fig. 1 is a plan view of the spoon.

Fig. 2 is an edge view of Fig. 1.

Fig. 3 is a fragmental view showing a portion of the handle and bowl of the spoon broken away and sectioned.

Fig. 4 is a cross section of the handle at the line H of Fig. 3.

Fig. 5 is a cross section similar to Fig. 4, showing a slightly modified form of the shape of the handle.

In carrying out my invention as herein embodied, 10 represents the bowl of the spoon and 11 represents a handle which latter has a central concaved body 12 uniting with the bottom of the bowl and extending upward on curved lines and rearward terminating in a flared end 13. The sides of this body are curved inward from the bowl to make a relatively narrow portion as indicated at 14. and then curved outward so as to widen out the handle for convenience in grasping and holding by the hand of the user and this body is concave upon the under side thereof, as clearly shown in Figs.

and extending rearward on the same general curved lines of the base of the sides of the body, thus not only strengthening the handle against sidewise strains but stiffening the entire spoon in general as well as facilitating the grasping and holding thereof and giving the general appearance of metal spoons of present-day construction.

The top of the body may be slightly dished, as clearly shown in Fig. 4 or it may be approximately flat as shown in Fig. 5.

A fiber spoon made in accordance with my invention is readily manufactured, does not permit the contents of the bowl to leak back into the handle as is the case with such spoons having the handle concave from the upper sides and gives strength and neatness of appearance.

Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact details of construction as herein shown, as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claim without departing from the spirit of my invention.

Having thus fully described my invention,

what I claim as new and useful is As a new article of manufacture, a fiber spoon having a bowl, a handle formed with the bowl, a central strengthening rib extending longitudinally throughout the length of said handle and into the bowl,

said rib lying above the upper surface of the handle, the underside of said rib being hollow and having its top wall concaved from above to give added strength to the handle.
