This invention relates to garment hangers and particularly hangers for supporting both garments having shouldered portions, such as coats, and garments such as trousersQSkirts 3 andthe like. The invention is especially related to the garment hanger described and claimed in my copending application Serial No. 4:99.615, filed December 3, 1930', which. consists of a mainv portion including suspending means and parts extending in opposite directions; at opposite sides of the suspending means and in a common vertical plane when thehanger is suspended, said parts loein shaped to receive the shoulders of a coat or the like, and an auxiliary portion connected to the ends of the shoulder receiving parts and including a trousers-supporting bar to receive trousers or the like, horizontallyspaced from the plane of said main portion sot-hat theedges of a coat or the like mounted on the shoulder receiving parts may be arranged between said main portion and said trousers-supporting bar. 7 a One object of the present invention is to provide a garment hanger of this general character wherein the auxiliary trouser-sup porting portion shall be .pivotally mounted upon the main portion so that it may be arranged in positions with its plane perpendicular to the plane of said main portion or sub stantially parallel thereto, whereby all portions of the hanger may be disposed in close, parallel and compact relationfor transportation of the hanger, as in baggage, and the auxiliary portion may be arranged in ofiset relation to the main portion when the hanger is in use to support a trousers or the like.

Another object is to provide such a hanger wherein the main portion and the auxiliary portion have cooperating means for positive.- ly holding the auxiliary portion in either of the above-mentioned positions.

Other objects are to provide a hanger of this character wherein the means for hold- 45 ing the auxiliary portion with its plans either perpendicular to the plane of the main portion or substantially parallel thereto, consists of cooperating projections and recesses on the main portion and the auxiliary portion or consists of a hook pivotally mounted HANGER 1931. The form-of the invention shown in Fighas one edge bent to form a tubular portion or sleeve 21 which is cut away at its ends at 22 to form shoulders for cooperation with the protuherances 17 and the shoulders 18 on the tie-bar. The other edge of the plate has ears 23 which are bent: over the end'portions of the supporting arms 5 to secure said supporting arms to the plate.

A further modification-of the invention is shown in Figureslix to 15. Here the main portion 0 of the hanger'includes two shoulder-receiving parts 24 'one'end of each of which is separably connected to oneend of the other- The separable connection is shown as consisting of a suspending hook 26having a threaded shank passing through open ings 27 in the overlapping ends of the parts 24, and threaded into a nut 28 at the side of the parts 24 opposite the hooln whereby the parts are clamped-together between thenut 28 and the hook. The other ends of the shoulder-receiving parts 24 are returned at 29 and provided with openings 30. in which are separably fitted theends31 of a tie-bar 32.

The auxiliary portion D is shown as. comprising a trousers-supporting bar 33 toithe ends of which are connected wire-supporting arms 47 which are also connected to a plate 48 having one edge portion rolled to form a tube 49 which is rotatably mounted onthe tie bar 32. The manner of attaching the arms 47 to the plate 48 and mounting the plate 48 on the tie-bar is in general similar to the construc tion shown in Figure. 10; For holding the auxiliaryiportion D in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the main portion C, one end of the tube 49 is providedwith a notch 50 which cooperates with a projection 51 on the tie-bar 32. The notch 50 and projection 51 correspond to the notch- 13 and projection 12 in the construction shown in Figure 4. The auxiliary portion D may if desired be heldin a position parallel to themain'pon tion as shown by dot and dash lines in Figure 13, by engagement of another notch 52 with the projection 51.

Figures 16 to 18 inclusive show a hanger embodying other features of the invention. This form of the hanger includes a main por tion E having two shoulder-receiving parts 34 one end of each of which is separably connected to one 'end of the other. As shown, this separable connection consists of the threaded shank 35 of a suspending'hook 36 passing through the openings 37 inthe ends of the shoulder-receiving parts and screwed into a plate 38. at the side of the parts 34 opposite the hook, whereby said parts are clamped between the plate 38 and the hook.

The other ends of the shoulderreceiving parts 34 are turned-inwardly toward each other in substantially. axial alinement and shaped to form trunnions 39 upon which is rotatably mounted ;a bar 40 forming a part of the auxiliary trouser-supporting portion F.

To this bar 40 are secured the extremities 41 of the supporting arms 42 for the trousersupporting bar 43. Aplate46'is connectedto theend portions of the supporting" arms 42 in a manner similar to that in W-hichthe plate 30 is connected'to the supporting arms 28in the construction shown in-Fi'gure 13. ,v.
