IMPROVEMENT IN BOARD-LATHS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,664, dated April 17, 1877; application tiled March 3, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW A. SMITH, of Boulder, in the county of Boulder and State of Colorado, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Boardllath, of which the following is a specification Figure l is a view of a portion of one of my improved laths. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal section of the same, taken through the line m m, Fig. 1.

The object of this invention is to furnish a lath which shall be so constructed that it will not be necessary to break joints in putting it on, which will strengthen the building, will require less studding and less labor to put it on than ordinary laths, and will thus make building less expensive. 7
The invention consists in a board lath formed by slotting boards of the proper thickmess with sets of slots, alternating or breaking joints with each other, as hereinafter fully described.
The lath is made of boards A, half an inch thick, and of any desired length and breadth. In the boards A are formed sets of slots a. The slots at of each set are made about twelve inches long, three-eighths of an inch wide, and about one and a half inch apart. The sets of slots at alternate with each other, or break joints, so that there need be no breaking joints in attaching the lath to the studs.
The board-lath A, in addition to its other advantages, serves as braces, to make the building firmer and stronger.

claim as new and desire to secure by Letters I Patent- Board-lath A, formed by slotting boards of the proper thickness with sets of slots at. alternating or breaking joints with each other, substantially as herein shown and described.
