This invention relates to convertibletents and aims to provide a combined shelter tent and hooded cloak of the poncho type which may constitute a partl of the regulation equipment of a soldier. Further objects are to provide a quickly and easily convertible construction of simple design, possessing Wearing comfort and affording protection to the head as well as the body when used as a cloak. Other objects relate to details of construction and will be apparent from a consideration of the following description and accompanying drawing which exemplifies one embodiment of the invention chosen for the purpose of illustration.

The shelter or pup tent shown in Fig. l comprises two V.shelter halves made of a light and ieXible fabric rendered water and gas proof, each having a lateral or side iiap 11 and a rear Hap 12, the construction being similar to the regulation army shelter half.

In accordance with my invention I provide a transverse slit or opening 13 in the lateral iiap 11, preferably midway between the lateral edges and adjacent to the junction of the lateral and rear flaps. A twoply closure ap 14 is stitched or otherwise secured along its upper longitudinal edge to the outer side of the Hap 11 adjacent to the opening 13 and is adapted to be buttoned over the opening to provide a closure therefor when the shelter half is in erected position as shown in Fig. 1.

When the shelter half is in erected positio-n, as in Fig. 1, the hood 15 normally hangs in a depending position on the inner side of the lateral flap 11, and provides a readily accessible wall pocket which may be conveniently used to hold various articles. 'S5 When the shelter half is to be used as a poncho, the closure flap 14 is unfastened and the pocket-like element 15 is turned inside out through the opening 13 to provide a hood j which may be drawn over the head as shown in Fig. 4, the lateral flap 11 and side flap l2 providing a cloak about the body. Y By means of the draw string 33 the size of the opening in the front of the hood may be varied and the hood may be drawn about the head and '95 face. This vfeature offers a particular advantage to a soldier engaged in active warfare in that the'hood affords protection to the normally exposed portions of the head l' against poisonous gases, such as mustard gas, .e190` ggrg l. 1,895,911

which attack the skin and cause severe burns.
