The object of the invention is to provide a strong rigid brace which may be made from a minimum of metal, which will be efficient for its intended purpose, attractive in appearance and economical to manufacture.

Referring to that embodiment of the in-.
vention shown in the drawing, the fence post brace is indicated as a whole at 10 and it comprises a single piece of metal bent longitudirially at'two places, 11 and 12, between its longitudinal edges 13 and 14, to form a substantially flat top surface 15 and depending sides 16 and 17.' The side walls 16 and 17 are slightly inclined outwardly as they extend downwardly from the edges of the top 15, then curved outwardly as indicated at 18 and 19, respectively, and then are turned inwardly at 20, 21 between the curved portions and the margins 13 and 14, respectively.
In the form shown in Figs. 1 to 3 inclu sive, at each end of the brace 10 the metal forming the sides is pressed toward the inner surface of the top 15 to form flat ends 22 which are bent so as to extend at an angle to the surface 15, and apertured for attachment by screw bolts 23 to the fence posts 24. As shown in Fig. 1, the member 10 is used as a diagonally extending brace between two fence posts but a plurality'of stretcher members 10 may be disposed horizontally to form cross bars for a fence.
In Figs. 4 and 5 isshown ,a modified form of end for the member 10. Instead of having the metal crushed together to form a flat end,
a limited extent near each end of'the brace 10, as ndicated at 25 in Fig. 5, and the post 24 FIC 5.0 the side walls are only pressed inwardly to iscut away at 26 to receive the end of the brace.
