IMPROVEMENT IN EYEGLASSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. [89,5I 1, dated April 10, 1877 application filed To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN SToWE SPENCER, of the city, county. and State of New York, have invented and produced a new manufacture in the shape of an Improved Eyeglass; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification- Figure 1 being a plan 'view of my improved eyeglass, and Fig. 2 a section in the line (J D of Fig. 1.
My said new manufacture has for its distinguishing feature the suspend1ng-fastener B, which is combined with the handle portion A of the eyeglass, and which is of such a shape that it can be readily attached to that portion of his or her garment that may be most convenient to the wearer.
I do not propose to limit' myself to any precise shape of the said suspending-fastener B, nor to the combination thereof with any precise portion of the frame of an eyeglass, While I attain the desired object of supplying an eyeglass-frame with a self-attachable suspending-fastener in substantiallythe manner represented in the accompanying drawings. Figs. 3 and 4 of said drawings represent modified forms of my said suspending and fastening attachment to the frames of eyeglasses.
The suspending-fastener f (represented in Fig. 3) is of such a shape that it also forms the only handle of the eyeglass-frame of which it forms a part.
The suspending-fastener e (represented in Fig. 4) is of the shape of a pointed half-turn of a helical screw, and is combined with the handle portion A of the frame of an eyeglass, as shown in said drawing.
I claim as my inventionl. The combination of a suspending and fastening attachment to the frame of an eyeglass, substantially as herein represented and described.
2. As a new article of manufacture, an eyeglass provided with a selfiattachable suspending-hook, substantially as herein represented and described.
