Description

Jan. 17, 1933. J. F. PINTO ELASTIC SUPPOBTER AND CLASP Filed April 12, 1952 Patented Jan. 17, 1933 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE i JULIAN F. PINTO, OF SACRAMENTO, CALIFORNIA, AssIGNOR or ONEfHA-LF To w. B.
JENKINS, or SACRAMENTO, oALiroRNIA j l ELAs'rrc sUPPoRTRR AND CLASP Application filed April 12, 1932; Serial No. 604,809.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in elastic supporters and clasps. I i
The primary object of the invention is'to '5 provide an elastic supporter and clasp, especially designed for the support of hose or the like, the clasp being of atype adaptable :for use on belts, suspender/s etc., and securely retaining the strap element associatedy thereio with inadjusted position.
With the above and -Other objects in view that will'become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and i arrangement of parts hereinafter more fullyA described; shown in the accompanying draw-v ing and claimed.
In the drawing :'l I y Figure 1 is an elevational view'of'an elas-` tic supporter and clasp constructedk in accordance with the present invention;
Figure2i's an elevational View of the clasp with the c'over in open position with a folded section of theelastic or strap overlyingvthe base portion of the clasp;
Figure 3 is-a plan view. similar to Figure 2, showing .the stra-p portion" removed from between the clasp section and illustrating .the sliding lockvfor. the clasp;
Figure 4 is a rear elevational view of the clasp withthe elasticor strap inposition therein; l
Figure 5 is a top plan view ofthe clasp in closed position with the elasticor strap dis- 5 engaged therefrom;
Figure 6 is an edge elevationalview of thel clasp showing the teeth or prongs on an edge of a clasp wall to be engagedwiththeelastic or strap;
Figure 7 is a detail sectional view taken on line 7,-7 of. Figure 1; v
Figure S is a detail sectional view taken on line 8 8 of Figure 1; V
Figure 9`is a cross-sectional view taken on line 9-9 of Figure 1 showing the grooved or notched endvof the clasp cover to receive the hook end of the sliding lock; and
Figure 10 is an edge elevational View 'of the elastic supporter and clasp illustrating al1'- supporter and clasp Vof the type usually'em- V lployed by women for'the supportof hose and wherein the supporter is attached to a corset or other garment, it being understoodv however that the devicel may be used for other purposes, such as the support of a brassire yor the like, the clasp being associated with a supporting strap in a manner to permit length adjustment of: ther supporting strap, said clasp being'formed of a base section 15 provided with side edge flanges l16 and having al cover 17 hinged thereto at one .end as at 18,\,.the cover 17 carrying a single side flange 19 and;l any outerfend iiange 20-to be moved into lbinding engagement with the supporting strap whenvthe cover 17 is folded upon the base section 15. Asshown in Figure 3, the inner face of the cover 17 carries rpin or prong projections 21 that bite into the supporting strapand one ofthe edge flanges 16 ofthe base 15 carries upstanding prongs 22 kthat bite into the supporting strap to hold` the latter against movement when the clasp cover is inits closed position.
The devices for holding the cover 17 in closed position include a slide arm 23 mount ed iny upstanding guide loops 24 struck' out from'thebase 15 in a direction toward Vthe cover 17 as shown inFigure 3, end fingers 25v projecting laterally ofthe' inner end of the slide arm 23 limiting outward movement of the slide arm. The, outer end of the lslide arm 23'y Vis provided with a. reversely bent finger grip or hook 26 that is received in a depressed portion 27 in the upper side vof the Outer'end v of the cover 17 so that the finger grip 26 .lies
in thel same plane as the cover 17 for'the elimination of any parts projecting from the clasp. vTo open the clasp, the finger grip 26 vis engaged to slide thearm .23 and free the finger grip from the depressed portion 27 in the cover, whereupon the latter may be swung to its open position upon its hinge mounting 18 as illustrated in Figures 2 and 3.
One side edge of the base 16 of the clasp is longitudinally slotted as at 28 through` -one bar of a safetyV pin or other fastening device 33 that is employed for attaching the supporter to a corset or other garment. The
I position.
length of the supporting strap 29`is varied by releasing the cover 17 in a manner as previously described and moving the strapthrough the double link 31, the cover 17 of the clasp when in lclosed position being securely 'retained by the slide arm 23 while the supporting strap 29 is restrained against slipping movement by the prongs 21 and 22 as well asr the cooperating flanges on the edges of thev clasp baseand cover.
' The hose supporting straps 34 are associated with the other loop of the double link 3l and'eachl'hose supporting strap carries a garterclasp or other device for attachment to hose or other garment to be lsupported in ln the use of the supporter and Aclasp as illustrated in Figure 10, a link memberBG is attached tothe garment 37 and the use'of theL pin fastener 33 illustrated in Figure 1. is
out departing from the spi-rit invention asiclaimed.v p
eliminated, the supporting strap 29a extendv Aing from the clasp 15 threads through the double link 31 and link 36 upon the garment with the Jfree end 29?) of the lsupporting strap 29a coniined between the sections of the clasp. ln this form, the link member 36 ispermanently attached to the garment and the supporting strap 29a is adapted to be engaged therewith. y
From the above detailed description of the invention, it is believed that the construction and operation thereof will at once be apparent and while there are herein shown and de scribed the preferred embodiments of the invention, it isnevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made therein withand scope ofthe -Iclaim:- 1 .v v 'v 1.
