Description

Jan. 17, 1933. A, HOFFMANN v 1 ,s94,313
THREAD GUIDE ADVANCING DEVICE FOR BOBBIN WINDING MACHINES Filed May 2. 1931 Patented Jan. 17, 1933 UNITED STATES AUGUST HOFFMANN, F LEIPZIG, GERMANY THREAD GUIDE ADVANCING DEVICE FOR BOBBIN' WINDING- MACHINES Application filed May 2, 1931, Serial No. 534,669, and in Germany May 3, 1930.
This invention relates to a thread guide advancing device for use on bobbin winding and the like machines in which the thread guide, in the direction of thread travel, is arranged in conjunction with a thread operated guide pulley or runner, which is adapted intermittently to shift a ratchet wheel for the progressive advance of the thread guide carrier by means of a toothed gear.
In the known devices of the said type it is necessary to keep the advancing gear in constant motion during the action of winding. It is required, therefore, when changing to threads of a different thickness, to carry out troublesome alterations or adjustments in the said gear, particularly in devices in which the progressive advance of the thread guide carrier is effect-ed by means of pegs or pins fixed on a gear wheel and adapted to engage with a ratchet wheel. In this case every change of thread requires alterations either in the number of pegs or in the diameter of the guiding pulley. A further drawback exists in the fact of the thread being constantly strained owing to its having to keep the gear in permanent motion. 7
Other bobbin winding devices may be used for the winding of thin or thick thread without any changes having to be carried out, but these devices are deficient in that the spindle for the movement of the thread. guide carrier 'must be maintained in constant rotation by a special gear provided for the purpose. In these devices the advance of the thread guide carrier is effected by means of an element, which is temporarily restrained in its motion by means of a diverting feeler actuated by the movement of the thread from the top of the bobbin to the base thereof, and which carrier along the screw spindle g.
is caused, thereby, to travel up the screw spinwhich the disadvantages enumerated shall be absent. 1
With this and other objects in view the invention consists in so combining the thread guide with the shaft of the guide pulley and "5 the toothed gear as to allow of simultaneous swinging movement in such a manner, as to cause the actuation of the toothed gear on the diversion of the thread guide when the latter J runs the thread up the base of the bobbin. 0 The accompanying drawing illustrates the invention by way of example. Fig. l is a side elevation of the thread guide advancing mechanism and Fig. 2 a plan view corresponding thereto. In this drawing the thread guide a has rigidly attached to it the turning'pin b which is journaled in an arm cl of the thread guide carrier is which, on its part, is adjustable on the screw spindle 9. 71 The turning pin b is also rigidly connected with the bearing hof the shaft 2' to the one end of which latter the thread guiding pulley m is attached, whilst its other end carries a (3 driving worm n. a The screw spindle g, which in known mannermoves regularly up and down in front of the bobbin, supports the thread guide carrier k with its advancing gear 0. A pawl 4", on the said carrier resiliently engages with '30 the threads of the screw spindle, and it will be apparent, that every rotary movement of the carrier is will be accompanied by a corresponding up or down movement of the said (L1 A rings is loosely placed over the hub forming the thread guide carrier, which ring is adapted to support the arm d for the thread guide a and the arm d forming a guide in conjunction with the rod p. i
The ring .9 is secured against axial displacement in any known or convenient manner, so
that it is forced to partake in the adjustment of the thread guide carriers k. (j
The new device operates as follows: The
thread which, by the thread guide a is led over the pulley or runner m, causes the shaft i and, therewith, the worm n to rotate. As
soon as the thread runs up the th'ickest'portion of the bobbin, the worm n,bythe divertgear wheel 0, into which resilient rim the teeth of the worm would impress themselves and thereby move the said disc in approximately the manner described.
What I claim is 1. A cop winding device including a screw threaded reciprocating member arranged to reciprocate in spaced parallel relation to the axis of the cop to be wound, a carrier on said member reciprocating therewith, means on said carrier engaging the thread on said memher, a worm wheel on said carrier, a drive shaft pivoted to swing atright angles to said member and reciprocating therewith, a worm on said drive shaft movable by the swinging movement of said drive shaft into and out of engagement with the worm wheel, thread controlled means for effecting swinging movement of the drive shaft, and thread actuate means for driving said drive shaft.
2. A cop winding device including a screw threaded reciprocating member arranged to reciprocate in spaced parallel relation to the axis of the cop to be wound, a carrier revolubly mounted on said member, a pawl mounted, on the carrier and engaging the thread of the member to effect reciprocation of the carrier with the member, a worm gear carried by the carrier, a drive shaft pivoted to swing at right angles to said member and reciprocating therewith, a worm on said drive shaft movable by the swinging movementof the shaft into and out of engagement with the worm wheel, thread controlled means for effecting swinging movement of the drive shaft, and thread actuated means for driving said drive shaft. v
3. A cop winding device including a screw threaded reciprocating member arranged to reciprocate in spaced parallel relation to the axis of the cop to be wound, a carrier revolubly mounted on said member, a pawl mounted on the carrier and engaging the thread of the member to eifect reciprocation of the carrier with the member, a worm'gear carried by thecarrier, a ring carried by the carrier, said carrier being revoluble with respectto the ring, means to prevent rotation of the ring, an arm projecting from thering, a bearing. pivoted to the arm with its pivotal axis parallel to saidmember and its bearing axis at right angles to its plvotal axis, a drive shaft journalled in said bearing, a worm on said" drive shaft movable by the pivotal'movement of the bearing into and out of engagement with the worm wheel, thread controlled means for efi'ecting pivotal movement of the bearing, and thread actuated means for driving the drive shaft.
4; A cop winding device including a screw threaded reciprocating member arranged to reciprocate in spaced parallel relation to the axis of the cop to be wound, a carrier revolubly mounted on said member, a pawl mounted on the carrier and engaging the thread of the member to effect reciprocation of the carrier with the member, a worm gear carried by the carrier, a ring carried by the carrier, said carrier being revoluble with respect to the ring, means to prevent'rotation of the ring, an arm projecting from the ring, a
bearing pivoted to the arm with its pivotal axis parallel to said member and its bearing axis at right angles to its pivotal axis, a drive shaft ournalled lnsald bear1ng,'a worm on said drive shaft movable by the pivotal movement of the bearing into and out of engageme'ntwith the worm wheel, a guide arm connected to the bearing to cause movement of the bearing on its pivot, a thread guide on the end of said arm, and a thread pulley on said drive shaft arranged to be engaged by thread passing through said guide.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature AUGUST HOFFMANN.
