UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIc-:E0
HIRAM L. IVES, OF TROY, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND T. HENRY DUTCHER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAMP-CHIMNEVS.
s pacification forming part of Letters Patent No. 189,359, dated April 10, 1877; application filed February 26, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I,HIRAM L. IVES, 0f Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Lamp-Chimney, of which the following is a specification The accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my improved lampchimney.
The invention has reference to an improved lamp-chimney of superior construction, that increases the draft of air to the llame, and produces the more perfect combustion of the gases.
The invention consists of a lamp-chimney having an interior glass section, extending upward, around, and above the burner. The lower part of the chimney below the collar is scalloped and perforated to draw up the air to the flame.
In the drawing, A represents a lamp-chimney, which extends from the lower, widest, or
- bulging part in conically-tapering shape to the upper end.
The chimney is contracted below the bulging part to form a collar, B, from which extends a wider base, G, with scalloped edge and perforations a.
A dome-shaped glass section, D, extends v from the collar upward into the interior of the wider part, s0 as to surround the flame and draw up a full supply of air through the base perforations, so. as to produce a more perfect combustion of the oil gases and a y brighter flame.
The glass section or cone D may be made in one piece with the chimney, or separately therefrom, and inserted into the contracted part. The air is drawn up to the flame by the cone and entirely utilized by the same, without the escape of a large quantity of heated air, as inthe common bulging chimneys.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A lamp-chimney, provided with the interior dome` D and the scalloped base (l, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
