This invention relates to shaving brushes of the magazine or reservoir type, and the principal object of the invention 1s to provide in a simple and practical form a shav in brush having a reservoir within which in ividual cartridges of shaving cream may be deposited as desired, with means for forcing same outwardly into the brush as required in use.

Another object is to provide a shaving brush having a reservoir for the reception of a cartridge of shaving cream, the said cartridge being formed with a screw spiralgroove upon its inner cylindrical walls, with means for locking the cartridge against rotation within the reservoir and additional means for forcing the cream from the cartridge out into the brush as required for use.

With these and such other objects and advantages in view as may be developed 1n the following specification, attention is now directed to the accompanying drawing as exemplifying a preferred embodiment of my invention and wherein Y Figure 1 is an elevation of a shaving brush constructed in accordance with my invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal section through the brush as shown in Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a transverse section on the line 3 3 of Figure 2.

In carrying out this invention, I provide a shaving brush designated generally at 1, the

same comprising a tubular or cylindrical form of handle 2 closed at one end 3-and open at the other end 4, there being apertures 5 formed through the closed end leading out into thebristles 6 constituting the brush proper. The tubular handle referred to thus pro- 1932. serial No. 617,708.

vides a magazine or reservoir 7 for the reception of a cartridge 8 of shaving cream, the cream bein indicated at 9. In accordance with my lnvention, it is contemplated that the cartridge 8 be made of some suitably 55 cheap substance such as press-board, millboard, the same being pressed or formed into the cylindrical shape represented inthe drawing and having also formed upon its inner walls from end to end the screw or spiral C groove 10. The cartridge 8 is left open at its ends in the making, and is illed with the shaving cream and then sealed at the ends with a wafer 11 of wax, gummed paper, or any other suitable material for the purpose. The cartridge 8 is formed so as to snugly lit within the said reservoir 7 and is anchored against rotation therein by means of recesses 12 formed diametrically opposite in the outer peripheral margin of the end of the cartridge the said plunger being provided with a screw or spiral thread 18 for engaging the said groove i 10 of the cartridge 8.

In the use of the assembly as described, the cartridge 8 loaded with shaving cream is inserted within the magazine or reservoir 7 of the handle, the end sealing wafers 11 .being first removed. The ca 14 is then positionedy at the end of the handle, the plunger 17 is entered at the open end of the cartridge and placed in engagement'with the spiral groove 10. A turn or two upon thecap 14 then serves to force cream out through the aperp tures 5 into the bristles 6, ready for use. When the cream is exhausted from one cartridge, the empty shell may be readily removed and another loaded cartridge inserted. In the modiication shown in Figures 6 and 7, one end of the cartridge is sealed with a heavy disc 19 of mill-board or the like, the same having a center slot 20 for the reception of the complemental, attenedlend 21 of the plunger rod 16, thereby dispensing with the permanent plunger 17 of the previously described assembly. The disc is also provided with a thread 18 for the groove 10. y

While I have herein described a certain specific manner and method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood that I may vary from the same infminor details, not departing from the spirit of my invention, so as best to construct a practical device for the purpose intended, as defined in the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a tubular handle open at one end, a tubular cartridge removably seated within the handle, the same having a screw groove formed upon its inner walls from end to end, a tubular cap telescopically mounted over the open end of the handle, the outer end Of the cap being closed, a plunger rod extended axially within the cap from the closed end thereof, and a plunger rigidly mounted at the free end of the rod, the plunger having a.

screw thread complemental to the screw groove of the cartrldge.

2. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a tubular handle open at one end, a tubular cartridge frictionally seated with in the handle, the cartridgehaving a screw groove formed upon its inner cylindrical surface, a tubular cap telescopically mounted over the open end of the handle and frictionally engaging the outer cylindrical surface thereof, the outer end of the cap being closed, a plunger rod extended axially within the cap from the closed end thereof, and a plunger f rigidly mounted at the free end of the rod and provided with a screw thread for engaging the screw grooveof the cartridge.

3. In a device of the kind described, the combination of a tubular handle with at least one end open, a tubular cartrid e removably seated within the handle, a tuular cap removably and telescopically mounted over the open end of the handle and adapted to frictionall engage the outer cylindrical surface thereo the outer end of the cap being closed, a plunger rod extended axially Within the cap from the closed end thereof, and a plunger rigidly mounted at the free end of the rod and adapted to move within the handle.
