FRMK SHADISH, OF BRIDGEVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA TOY VEHICLE Application led June 18, 1932. Serial No. 616,979.
The present invention relates to new and therein an electric or spring motor of any useful improvements in toy vehicles in the suitable construction (not shown) which may f orm of miniature railroad cars or locomobe operatively connected to one of the axles tives, street cars, automobiles, trucks, etc., 3 in an desired manner; as by a train ofv 5 and has for its primary object to provide, in gears. airs of vertically spaced fingers 5 55 a manner as hereinafter set forth, a toy of project longitudinally from the rear end of this character embodyin a single truck or the frame wheeled motor unit toget er with a plurality Projecting forwardly from the lower porof various types or kinds of bodies which tion of the frontend of the frame 2 is a 10 may be selectively and detachably mounted horizontal lip 6. Above the lip 6, the front G0 on the truck or wheeled motor unit. end of the frame 2 is provided with an open- Another very important object of the in- .ing 7 in which a latch 8 is operable. The vention is to provide novel coacting means on latch 8 is pivotlly mounted for swinging the truck and the bodies for securing said movement in a vertical plane on the interior 15 bodies in osition on the truck. of the frame 2 and on the frontend of said 65 Other o jects of the invention are to` proframe, as at 9. A spring it? is mounted on vide a toy vehicle of the aforementioned the inner side of the front end of the frame character which will be simple in construc- 2 and is engaged with the latch 8 for yieldtion, strong, durable, efficient andi'reliable in ingly urging said latch toward operative po- 0 use, attractive in appearance and which may sition. The latch 8 is provided .with an anbe manufactured at low cost. gular handle 11 for manually swinging said `All of the foregoing and still further oblatch to inoperative position against the ten- ]'ects and advantages of the invention will sion of the spring 10. Y become apparent from a study of the foilow- The reference numeral 12 designates genering specification, taken in connection with ally abody of suitable material, preferably the accompanying `drawings wherein like metal, which may be formed to represent ay characters of reference designate eoi'respondsteam or electric locomotive, as illustrated, a ing parts throughout the several views, and street car road or any other vehicle. The wherein?. body 12 is of generally hollow construction Figure 1 is a view in side elevation showing for the reception of the truck 1, as illustrated 8 a miniature steam locomotive constructed in to advantage in Figure 2 of the drawings. accordance with the present invention. The shaft 13 is'fixed transversely in the rear Figure 2 is a bottom plan view thereof. portion of the body 12 and is provided with Figure 3 is a view in side elevation showing. a. reduced intermediate portion 14 which is n a toy vehicle in the form of an electric loco- Slidably IlSeIable between the Upper Mld-8"" motive, l lower lingers 5 of the frame 2. The reduced Figure 4 is a view in side elevation of the portion li of the shaft 13 provides shoulders truck. 15 which substantially prevent sliding nieve- Figure 5 is a View in bottom plan 0f the ment of the shaft 13 laterally with respect to 90 truck. the truck 1. The reference numeral 16 'levig- Figure 6 is a view in front elevation of the nates a shaft similar to the shaft which is truck. fixed transversely in the forward portion of Referring now to the drawings in detail, the body 12. The shaft 16 is engageable on it will be seenthat the reference numeral 1 the lip 6 of the frame 2 for supporting the gr designates generally a truck which includes forward end'portion of the body 12 on the J a metallic frame 2 which issubstantially truck 1. The Ashoulders provided by the rerectangular in plan. Axles 3 are journaled duced intermediate portion of the shaft G are transversely in the frame 2 and have fixed engageab'le with the ends of the lip 6 to prem on their end portions flanged wheels 4. The vent lateral movement of the forward end of No frame 2 of the truck 1 may have mounted the body l2 relative to the truck. The latch 8 is engageable with the shaft 16 for retaining said shaft 16 on the lip 6.
' It will thus be seen ythat I have provided a construction and arrangement through the medium of which various types of bodies may be expeditiously mounted on the truck and removed therefrom. To mount the body on the truck, the shaft 13 is inserted between the fingers 5 and said body is then swung down-` wardly until the shaft 16 passes the latch 8 and engages the lip 16. The shaft 16 travels closely adjacent the front end of the frame 2 and said front end is curved upwardly as best suggested in Figure 4 of the drawings to conform to the arc described by said shaft 16 during this swinging operation. To remove v .the body from the truck, the latch 8`is swung to inoperative position against thetension of the spring 10 by engaging a finger or thumb with the handle 11, thus releasing the shaft 16 for upward swinging movement until it ""clears the frame 2, after whichjthe shaft 13 may be slipped rearwardly from between the finffers 5.
s previously stated, a springor electric motor, (not shown may be carried in the frame 2 of the truc.. i. If an electric motor is used, electric lights (not shown) may be provided in the body 12 and electrically connected with said electric motor by means including a metallic contact plate 17 which is mounted in the forward upper portion of said body 12 and insulatedtherefrom, said contact plate 17 being engageable with a resilient retaining the body against lateral movement on the truck and coacting means on the other end portion of the truck and on the body for lreleasably securing said body to the truck.
`3. A vehicle comprising a Wheeled truck, a. body, vertically spaced fingers projecting from one end portion ofthe truck, a shaft mounted transversely in one end portion of the body engageable between the fingers and coacting means on`the other end portion of the truck and on the body for releasably' securing said body to thetruck, said means including a support on the truck, another shaft on the body engageable on the support, and a latch on the truck engageable 'with the second. named shaft for` retaining said second named shaft on the support.
f1. A vehicle comprising a wheeled truck, a. body, and means for removably mounting the body en the truck, said means including a lip projecting from the truck, a shaft mounted on the body and engageable on the lip, and a latch mounted on the truck and engageable with the shaft for releasably securing said shaft on the lip.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
- FRANK SHADISH.
Contact finger 18 which is electrically connected with the electric motor.
