[Class 108 (i)] [See also Group XV] An articulated vehicle is mounted entirely on castor wheels and runs on a rail-less banked runway. As shown, the front and rear sections 15, 17 of the car are pivoted at 16, and secured to the underside of the front section is a bar 18 carrying castors 19. Attached to the castor frames 20 are arms carrying springs attached to a bracket on the bar 18. A draw-bar 24 slidable in the bar 18 is pivoted to a cross-bar 25 secured to the underside of the rear section 17. Pivoted in brackets 26 on the bar 25 are frames 27 carrying at the front castors 29, the brackets 31 for which have arms secured by springs to brackets extending inwardly from frames 27, and carrying at the rear brackets 36 carrying castors 38, springs extending between arms on the brackets 36 and brackets on the frames 27. Rear castors 43 are carried in brackets 44 on a bar 45 pivoted to a bracket on the bottom of the car, and springs extend between arms on brackets 44 and a projection on the bar 45. Compression springs 50 in tubes 51 pivoted at 52 to the rear portion of the body are compressed between members 53 and plungers 54 pivoted on the front portion of the body. The car is propelled by a motor 56 on a platform 57 pivoted at 58 to a swivel 59 pivoted on a stud 60 on the car floor. A drive wheel 61 is mounted between arms 62 projecting from the rear of platform 57, and has secured thereto a sprocket driven by a chain 64 from a sprocket on shaft 66 fast on which is a sprocket 68 driven by a chain 69 from a sprocket 70 fast on the motor-shaft 71. Compressed air for operating the controls is provided by compressors 73 connected by tubes 74 to a tank 75 connected by a tube with valves 77, 78, 79, 80 controlling brakes, carburetters, gears and clutches. A number of cars may be coupled together to form a train, and the control valves 77, 78, 79, 80 on one car simultaneously controlling the corresponding mechanisms on another car, or the motors may be omitted and the cars gravity operated.
