able character-bearing tiles or cards within a'frame which is designed to expedite and facilitate replacement of any card and serves effectively to protect the edges of the cards against casual abrasion. i I A more specic object is to provide a display card carrier frame in which certain of the cards, when in applied position, serve/to lock other cards against inadvertent displacement so that the frames with the cards assembled therein may beV conveniently transported Without danger of thecards falling out, more specifically Without any danger of the relativelyV small character-bearing price card members becoming displaced or disarranged.

Another object is to providea stand of this character which is unapt to be accidently upset in use, and yet, which may be conveniently laid on its side when the merchandise displays are covered at night, without danger of injuring the cardsor lof having any of the cards displaced. U

Another object is to provide a carrier frame which is peculiarly adapted for receiving small interchangeable character bearing tiles and which is so designed that one or more of the tiles may be readily interchanged Without the necessity for displacing the entire row of tiles and the tiles Vwhen in position will have all of their non-abutting edges adequately protected against abrasion.

The stand is orl` simple, rugged, durable construction well suited `to meet the demands of economic manufacture and to withstand the careless handling to which it may be subjected.

'The central framing open-v ing, 23, is open at one side and closed at its other side, its closed top is channelled and a card in said frame rests at its lower end on the cutaway portion, 46, of one arm, 35, and the correspondingly cutaway portion, eti-i, of the opposite arm.

Preferably the lower framing opening, 24, is adapted to receive a plurality of small character-bearing tiles,'60, arranged in side by sideabutting relationship and serving to cooperatively display the prices of the articles on the counter. These tiles are dropped in through the open top of the lowermost frame and upward movement thereof is blocked by the slidable insertion of a card, 6l, into the central frame. This card rests on the supporting surfaces, 46', t6-a, as above described, and as it drops behind the shoulder, 47, it is safely guarded against accidental withdrawal. 'A card, 62, may be dropped into the uppermost frame through theopen top thereof.

It will be evident that the frame construction is admirably adapted for use of the small character bearing cards or tiles inthe lower frame, since such cards may be readily interchanged and removed as desired without dis tui-hing the entire row of tiles as would'be the case if the tileshad to be `slipped out through an end opening rather than a top opening in the lower framing section.

In practice,a set of price cards, ordinarily I of cardboard, as well as the cards, 61 and 62, may be duplicated, two sets being placed baclr to back as illustrated so that the sign may be read from either side.4 If desired, a filler piece shown at 68 on F ig. 2 may be employed between the Vsets of price cardl tiles, 60, to

p strengthenand reinforce them.v

By using the three frames, it is quite con-` venient to display the price of the merchandise in one frame, the naine of the merchandise in another frame, and either the name of the department in which the merchandiseis sold or the particular holiday orsales eventVV being celebrated, in the third frame.

vIt will thus be seen that there is herein described an article in which the several features of this invention are embodied, and which article in its action attains the various objects of the invention and is well suite@ to meet the requirements of practical use.

As many changes could be inadein the above construction, and many apparently widely different embodiments of this invention could he made without departingfrom the scopeA thereof, it is intended that all inatter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpretedas illustrative and not in a` with card applied by a vertical sliding movement Asupport attached to said means limiting sense, for the invention is to be construed as broadly as it is recited in the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new Vand desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is :f4

A'display device of the class described, including a pair of generally similar coinciding outer frame members and spacer means fined between thesame and cooperating 'with them to define a plurality of card holding frames, each having an Vopening in a side through which a card maybe slidably applied, only one ofsaid openings leading-di-r rectly to the exterior of said device, the card receiving opening in the side of one frame bee ing through the'side of another frame and at right angles .to the receiving opening for the card to be mounted in saidl other frame, wherebywithdrawal of a card from the first frame is blocked by the card in the second frame. p

2. A display device ofthe class described,

A display stand of the character described including a pair of rigid generally similar coinciding skeleton frame forming members having a plurality of pairs of adjacent frame forming openings therein, means interposed between said members rigidly connected to them and spacing them apart, said interposed means similar in general contour to the frame forming members and cooperating with them to provide card receiving frames, each having an entrance opening at one side through which a card maybe slidably insertedsaid interposed means including short lengths of stock riveted between the frame forming members, and a support for the stand atixed to said means and extending below said members. v

A display stand of the character described including a pair of rigid generally similar skeleton frame forming members having a plurality of pairs of adjacent frame forming openings therein, means interposed between said members rigidly connected to them and spacing them apart, said interposed means following the general contour of the frame forming members and cooperating with them to provide card receiving frames, eachV having an entrance opening at one side through which a card may be slidably inserted, said interposed means including `short lengths of stock, some ends of which are shaped to interit and interlock with adjacent ends of other lengths of stock and the remaining ends of which are riveted to the frame forming members.

A display stand of the 4character described comprising a pair of frame forming members having openings therein and means disposed between said members, connected thereto and spacing them apart, said means coinciding with said openings and comprising a U-shaped member, a cross bar spaced from the U-shaped member and side pieces adjacent the end of said oar and cooperating therewith and with said U-shaped member.

A display stand of the character described including a pair of frame forming members having openings therein and means disposed between said members, connected thereto and spacing them apart, said means comprising a U-shaped member, a cross bar spaced from the end of said U-shaped member and side pieces adjacent the end ofthe cross bar, some of the lparts of said means engaging each other and the remaining parts being riveted to said frame members.
