The present invention relates to teething devices.
The device is so constructed that it has a lip which is curved to iit the front portion 5 of the gums. This lip is carried by a handle and is arranged generally at a right angle to the handle. This arrangement permits of the lip being inserted within the mouth while the handle will stand longitudinally of the body, so that the infants arm may be low, comfortable, and more or less at rest. The curvature of the lip also prevents the use of the device as a pacifier. The device is in no sense a pacifier, but is designed for use solely as a teething device, to provide a surface upon which the infant may bite to aid in cutting the teeth through the gum, and at the same time promote the ease and comfort of the infant, as much as possible.
The device is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.

In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates a straight handle or body portion. Preferably formed integral with one end of the handle is a lip 6, which is curved in longitudinal section, and straight in transverse section. This curved lip extends laterally upon one side of the handle and has its longitudinal axis arranged generallyv at a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the handle. The handle 5 is provided adjacent to its connection with the lip 6, with al bulbous shaped portion 7.
Formed integral with the opposite end of the handle or body portion 5 is an eye 8,' receiving therein a ring 9.
The entire device may be madeof any suitably sti' or rigid material, such as celluloid, ivory, or the like.
The infant may grasp the handle 5 an insert the longitudinally curved lip 6 in the front portion of his mouth, between the front portions of the upper and lower gums. The lip 6 extends generally to the curvature of 55 the gums, and having its longitudinal axis disposed at generally a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the handle, the handle will lie close to the body o-f the infant, so that the arm holding the same may be low, comfortable, and 'more or less supported, or at rest. With thedevice in this position, there is no danger o-f the handle being forced against the roof of the. mouth of the infant, in the event of a fall, as may occur with y Va teething device which is straight throughout its entire n length. The longitudinal curvature of the lip 6 prevents such lin being used as a pacifier. Having fully described my invention, what I claim is:
l.l A teething device comprising a handle, $5 and a. lip curved in longitudinal section and substantially flat in transverse section carried by one end of the handle and projecting laterally beyond the handle, said lip having its longitudinal axisdisposed generally at 90' Y 5o d a right angle to the longitudinal axis of the handle. 2. A teething device comprising a handle, and a lip curved in longitudinal section carried by one end of the handle and projecting laterally beyond the handle, said lip having its longitudinal axis arranged generally ataright angle to the longitudinal axis of the handle. 3. A teething device comprising a handle, and a lip secured to one end of the handle and having its longitudinal axis4 arranged generally at` a right angle tothe longitudinal axis of the handle.
