Extending downwardly and opening intothe bottomof the cup 17 is-a tubular bore 18, housing a conduit 19 which leads into the body 1 at the upper side thereof as illustrated in Figure 2, so that the ungeneratedfuel accumulated in thecup 17 may be-passed into'the body 1 and mixed with the fuel so as to be generated bef0reconducted to the burners 3.
Extending from one side of the'cup 17 and communicating therewith is a U-shaped passage 20 communicating at its outer end with the generatortube 21 for the lighter.- The tube 20 communicating with the atmosphere adjacent'the inner end of the tube 21 by means of an inlet port 22 which admits air T31, to the tube 20 to be'mixed" with the fuel passing from the tube 21, through the tube 20 to the cup 17.

valve 26 which :controls a supply of gas r from the cup 25 to thelight'er generator tube 21 is opened and the fuel under pressure passes through the tube 20 until a supply is within the cup 17, it is ignited and the heat therefrom will generatethe fuel within the tube 21 intov gas, the gas passing through the tube 20 into the cup 17'where it will -burn7 upwardly heating both the tubes 21 After the tube '7 has been heated to the proper: degree,the valve 12is opened to 40 admit'fuel to the tube 7 for generation. If desired, one of the valves 4 to the burners 13 may be opened prior to the opening of the valve 12 or immediately following, as the] fuel whenit reaches the tube 7 after passingthrough the valve 12, will be immediately generated and'directed into the curved tube 10 where upon its first entrance thereto is mixed with air entering through the inlet 11,

It will be noted thatafter the valve 26 has been closed, any unburned fuel within the --cup 17 will bedrained down through the conduit 19 into the main body 1 where it will bemixed with the fuel therein and carried to the burners v v v In a, great many instances, the fuel cups orreceptacles for the lighter are overflowed through-the negligence of persons operating the burner by leaving the fuel control valve 1 open, permitting the fuel to drain into the eup and this not only causes danger and greatiannoy'ance, but loss'of fuel; This 0bjection, however, is overcome inthe present instance, as any fuel train the supply cup 25 within the tank 1 1 draining into the burner cup 17, will be immediately carried off into the body 1 through the conduit 19.
Furthermore, in the present instance, with the construction of our device, only a certain predetermined amount of fuel could possibly be conveyed to the cup 17, as the cup 25, which will be known as the constant level cup, contains atone filling a certain amount-of fuel and after this has been drained off through the chamber 24-,the supply within the cup cannot. bejreplenished until it is desired to start the burner.

Thefuel is forced into the cup 25 through operation ofa pump connected to the valve 27 through the conduit 31 or this conduit 31 may be connected to a source ofair under pressure for not onlysupp'lying air pressure to the tank 14; but can be used for forcing the fuel from the tank 14 into the cup 25. s e p 1 The air pressure within the cup 25 is maintained through the tube 28, as this tube isprovided atfa point adjacent the valve 27 with an inlet 32 communicatingwith the air pressure. of the tank 14 above the fuel therein, this inlet 32' also preventing the fuel from backing up from'the tank 1 1 to the. pump or to the air supply when the valve 27 is=opened.
It will be apparent from the foregoing that by providing the cup25:to maintain a constant level for the lighter, it will provide a feeding means for the burner which supplies the proper amount of fuel for thelighter during its use'in heating thegenerator7 and should the valve 26be allowed to remain open at any time, the amount of fuel drained from the cup 25 will not remain in the cup 17, but will passdownwardly into the body 1. It will be notedthat with the use of our improved device, a constant level is maintained forthe fuel feeding of the lighter andat, the same time the fuelsupply to the lighter is limited andany ungenerated liquid fuel will not be wasted. As shown in Figure 2, the valve member 26 is supported upon an arm 33 which is illustrated as; angular in shape with one end thereof connected to the bracket 16. This forms a rigid support for the valve 26 and iao will maintain the inner end of the tube 21 connected'up with the passage 20. V
We claim: 1
In a constant level safety device'for liquid fuel lighters, a supply and storage tank, an auxiliary supply tank carried by the top wall of the main supply storage tank, and arranged within the main tank and 'dependifilg from said top wall, said auxiliary supply ta being normally arranged above the fuel level Q in the maintank, an outlet fuel pipe leading from the auxiliary supply tank, and a pipe for feeding air under pressure extending into the main tank and having a loop provided with an opening arranged adjacent the bottom of the tank,'the inner end of said'pipe extending into the auxiliary supply tank above the liquid level thereof.
