My invention relates to reducing apparatus and my object is to provide means whereby superfluous flesh may be removed from the person by physical exercises carried out with the use of the apparatus. I
A further object is to provide an apparatus of this character which is welladapted for the purpose intended, is compact in form andmay be supported from a door casing or other suitable object.
In order that the invention may be fully understood, referencewill now be had to the accompanying drawings, in which:

Fig. 7 is a detail of one of a pair of links employed in carrying out the invention.
Referring in detail to the difierent' parts, 2 designates a standard which consists preferably of a suitable length of pipe secured at its ends in upper and lower housings 4 and 6, respectively, which are similar to each other in shape and enclose suitable means whereby they may be firmly secured to a door casing A or other suitable support.
As shown by Fig. 5, each housing is secured 10 and a screw 12. The hook 8 has threads 14 so that it may be screwed into the casing A, while the screw 12 is threaded into one end of the link 10, which latter engages over the outer end of the book 8. The outer end of the screw 12 is provided with suitable means whereby it may be readily rotated to tighten up the link 10 and force the housing 4 firmly against the casing A, said means in the pres-' ent instance being shown in the form of a thumb piece 16 bearing against the front end of the housing 4.

The bearingcap 36 is yieldablyheld in position upon the shaft 32 by suitable means such as bolts 38 which pass J upwardly through registering holes in the bearing 18,
the cap 36 and 'a' yoke 40, which latter is pressed downwardly upon a coil spring 42' Y and in turn causes the latter to press downwardly upon'the bearing cap 36. .The desired pressure upon the yoke is obtained by suitable means such as nuts 44' threaded upon'the upper ends of the bolts 38, which I latter-are provided at their lower ends with thumb pieces 46 whereby they maybe readily rotated in either direction. The nuts 44 V are held from rotating withthebolts 38 by means of 'flanges '48 projecting upwardly from the yoke 40. '=Tl1e'upper'portions of the bolts 38, the yoke 40 and 'the'spring, 42 are enclosed with in a casing 50 provided with a cap 52' havingaremovable cover plate 54, so that access maybe had to a nut 56 threaded upon the upperend of a bolt 58 with which it co operates in holding the casing 50 and the cap 52 in assemblywith the bearing cap 36. The bolt 58 extends through a hole in the yoke 40 and is secured to the shown by Figs, 4 and6.

From the foregoing description taken in connection with the drawings, it is apparent that I have provided a reducing apparatus embodying the advantages above pointed out, i and while I have shown and described one form of the invention I reserve all rights to 6. An apparatus of the character described comprising a suitably supported standard, a support vertically adjustable upon said standard, a clamping member vertically adjustable upon said support, manually controlled screw means for securing the support and said clamping member atany point of their adjustment upon the standard, and exercising mechanism carried by said support.

Having thus described my invention, What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
- 1. In an apparatus of the character de-- scribed, a tubular shaft adapted to hold a lubricant and provided with outlet ports, a hand lever for operatingsaid shaft and closing one end thereof, suitable means closing the opposite end of said shaft, and supporting means frictionally engaging said shaft for retarding the operation thereof.
2. An apparatus of the character described consisting of a suitably supported bearing, a shaft operably mounted in said bearing, a cap engaging said shaft, a spring resting against said cap, a yoke, screw means for drawing said yoke against said spring tocause the cap to frictionally engage the shaft, a housing resting on said, cap and enclosing the spring and the yoke, and manually controlled means for actuating said shaft.
3. An apparatus of the character-described consisting of a'suitably supported bearing,
a tubular grease holding shaft operably mounted in said bearing and provided with outlet ports, a cap engaging said shaft, a spring resting against said cap, a yoke, means for drawing said yoke against said spring to cause the cap to frictionally engage the shaft, means including a hand lever for closing the ends of theshaft, a. housingiresting on the cap and enclosing the spring andthe yoke,
