This invention relates to certain novel improvements in drying baskets and more particularly to a drying basket intended for use in a laundry and the like and has for its principal object the provision of an improved construction of this character which will be highly efficient in use and economical in manufacture.

The salient object of my invention is to provide a basket which will be arranged in the manner which will permit the expeditious dumping of the clothes therefrom when desired.

Another object of the invention is to provide a basket of the above described character which willbe so arranged that it may be expeditiously mounted on a truck in a manner which will prevent ready displacement therefrom in order that transportation thereof will be facilitated.

Another object of the invention is to provide an improved retaining arrangement for the mechanism which will comprise a mem-' her that may be expeditiously removed when so desired.

A further object of the invention is to provide an arrangement which will retain the removable member until releasing thereof is desired.

Other objects will appear hereinafter.

The invention consists in-the novel combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter described and claimed.

In the accompanying rawing wherein I have illustrated the preferred formof construction for my invention 10 generally indicates a washing machine of the laundry type which is divided into a plurality of washing compartments. 11 into which the clothes are introduced and in which the clothes are agitated in the presence of the cleansing medium. Chains 14 are secured to the arms of the bracket 13 adjacent the ends thereof. These chains are detachably connected to the upper end of the basket 12 in order that the basket may be lifted in a manner to ibe 'set" forth. These chains 14, when so connected, extend across the basket 12 as chords thereof, as best illustrated in Fig. 4.

passed Arranged at the center of the basket 12 is a conical member 19 which, as best illus trated in Fig. 6, is preferably of less height than the basket 12. .The upper end of this conical member 19 is truncated and an attaching loop 20 is mounted at this end. Depending from the point of intersection of the arms of the bracket 13 is a hook element 21 and the attaching loop 20 is disposed in this hook element 21 to retain the conical member 19 in the basket 12. It is manifest that the lower end of the conical member 19 is, therefore, diziposed above the lower end of the basket 12. The attaching cord 18 is arranged to extend around the member 19 adjacent the base thereof and, therefore, the rings 17 may be drawn into engagement with the conical member 19, and, therefore, the intermediate portions of the chain 16 will be arranged to extend inwardly and upwardly as is best illustrated in Figs. 5 and 6 and by referring to Fig. 5 it may be seen that by so arranging the chains a substantially star shaped figure will result. This arrangement of the chains provides with the member 19 a bottom for the basket 12.

. In order to facilitate transportation of the device I provide a vehicle in the form of a truck 22 which is preferably mounted on wheels or castors 23 to facilitate transportation thereof. On the truck 22 I fixedly mount a conical member 24 which is of a size that will ermit this conical member 24 to be arranged interiorly of the conical member 19.

In use, the conical member 19 is arranged interiorly of the basket 12 and the attaching cord 18 is passed about the lower end thereof to arrange the chain 16 in the manner set forth and the attaching cord 18 has the end portions thereof knotted or otherwise retained as shown at 25. The basket 12 is then arranged on the truck 22 with the conical member 24 arranged interiorly of the conical member 19. The clothes are then removed from one of the washer compartments 11 and are introduced into the basket 12. The bracket 13 is then disposed over the upper end of the basket 12 and the chains 14 are attached to the upper end of the basket 12. The hook element 21 is passed through the re-- taining loop 20. The device is then ready for transportation to a drying mechanism as for example a centrifugal drier. The basket 12 is then removed from the truck 22 and introduced into this centrifugal drier and the cleansing medium is extracted from the saturated clothes through the basket 12. The

device is then removed from the drier and is transported on the truck 22 and cone 24 to a so called sorting table. The hook 21 is then detached from the loop member 20. A suitable hoisting mechanism is attachcd to the ket 12 is raised. Therefore, the chain 16 will retain the star like formation but instead of extending upwardly with respect to the lower ,end of the basket 12 this chain will extend downwardly and will retain the clothes in the basket 12. transports the basket 12 to a position above the sorting table and by reason of the fact that the chain 16 is depending it is manifest that access to the knot 25 may be readily attained. By untying this knot 25 it is manifest that 'the chain 16 will be released and, therefore, the clothes will fall from the basket 12 onto the sorting table. The device will then be arranged in the manner heretofore set forth and the above described operation will be repeated.

It is manifest from the foreging description that I have provided an arrangement which will. greatly facilitate the transportation of clothes and other material in a laundry or the like. It is also apparent that the device is arranged in a manner which will permit the expeditious removal of the clothes from the member into which they are introduced fortransportation.

While I haveillustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification, without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claims.

Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:

1. In laundry apparatus, a gasket having an open bottom,flexible means attached to said basket adjacent said bottom, a member adapted to be disposed within said basket and to be releasably engaged therein by said flexible means and when therein co-operating with said flexible means to providea bottom for, and to retain articles in, said basket, and means providin releasable engagement between said flexi le means and said member and which may be released from engagement with said member by raising the basket independently of said member, thus permitting the articles to fall from the basket through said bottom thereof thus opened."

2. In laundry apparatus, a basket having an openbottom, flexible means attached to said basket adjacent said bottom, a member adapted to be disposed within said basket and to be releasably engaged therein by said flexible means and when therein co-operating with said flexible means to provide a bottom for, and to retain articles in, said basket, means providing releasable engagement between said flexible means and said member and which may be released from engagement with said member by raising the basket'independently of said member, thus permitting the articles to fall from the basket through said bottom thereof thus opened, and means to which said member and basket may be attached so that both may be hoisted together or the basket independently of said member.

3. In laundry apparatus, a basket having an open bottom, flexible means attached to said basket adjacent said bottom, a member adapted to be disposed within said basket and to be releasably engaged therein by said flexible means and when therein co-operating with said flexible means to provide a bottom for, and to retain articles in, said basket, means providing releasable engagement between said flexible means and said member and which may be released from engagement with said member by raising the basket independently of said member, thus permitting the articles to fall from the basket through said bottom thereof thus opened, means adapted to have detachable connection with said basket at the top thereof and enabling the basket to be hoisted, and an element attached to said last-mentioned means and adapted to be connected to said member so that said member and basket may be hoisted together or the basket independently of said member.

4. In" laundry apparatus, a basket having an open bottom, flexible means attached to said basket adjacent said bottom, a hollow conical member having an open base and adapted to be disposed within said basket and to be releasably engaged therein by said flex-- ible means and when therein co-operating with said flexible means to provide for, and to retain articles in, said basket, means providing releasable engagement between said flexible means and said conical member and which may be released from enagement with said conical member by raising the basket independently of said conical member, thereby permitting said articles to fall from the basket through said bottom thereof thus opened, a vehicle, and a conical element on said vehicle onto which said coni cal member may be telescoped so that said basket, articles, and conical member may be transported on said vehicle.

5. In laundry apparatus, a basket having an open bottom, flexible means attached to said'basket adjacent said bottom, a hollow conical member having an open base and adapted to be disposed within said basket and member, thereby;

6. In laundry apparatus, a basket having an open bottom, flexible-means attached to said basket adjacent said bottom, a, hollow conical member having an open adapted to be disposed within said basket and to be releasably engaged therein by sald flexible means and when therein co-operatmg with said flexible means to provide a bottom for, and to retain articles in, said basket, means providing releasable engagement between said flexible means and said conical member and which may be released from engagement-with said conical member by raising the basket independently of said conical member, thereby fall from the basket through said bottom thereof thus opened, a vehicle, and a conical element on said vehicle onto which said holbase and permitting said articles to low conical membenmay be telescoped so a that said basket, articles, and conical member may be transported on said vehicle, means adapted to have detachable connection with said basket at the top thereof, and an element attached to said last-mentioned means attachable to said hollow conical member so that said basket and hollow conical member may be hoisted together onto and off said conical element and vehicle or said basket be raised therefrom independently of said hollow conical member so that said articles may be discharged from the basket.

7. 10.
