ATTACHMENT TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND BOLT RIFLE A LEFT HAND BOLT RIFLE OR A LEFT H D BOLT A RIGHT HAND BOLT RIFLE 'led Ap 50, 1931 INVENTOR Patented Nov. 8, 1932 means QNETEE STATES FATENT @hFlCE HERBERT E. WALE, OF BREMERTON, WASHINGTON ATTACHLIENT TO IVIAKE A RIGHT-HAN D BOLT RIFLE A LEFT-HAND BOLT RIFLE OR A.
LEFT-HAND BOLT RIFLE A RIGHT-HAND BOLT RIFLE Application filed April 30,
My invention relates to the attachment or improvement in the form of a bolt to make a right-hand bolt action rifle available for use by a left-handed rifleman, or a left-hand bolt action rifle available for use by a righthanded rifleman; and the objects of my attachment or improvement are:
1. To provide a very economical way and simple method of changing a right-hand rifle in into a lefthand rifle, or a left-hand rifle into a right-hand rifle.
I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a top view of the attachment.
Figure 2 is a cross-section view through the gun stock, numeral 5, and present righthand bolt, numeral l, and also shows a cross rear view of the assembled numerals.
Figure 3 is cross section view through the attachment numeral 1, taken on the section line 33.
Figure a is a rear view of the bottom socket clamp numeral 2.
Figure 5 is a top view of the bottom socket clamp numeral 2.
Figure 6 is a cross section view through the assembly taken on the section line 66.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
T he attachment is com osed of numeral 1, the bolt portion of the attachment.
Numeral 2 is the bottom socket clamp. Numeral 8 the five screws holding the bolt in its proper position.
Numeral 4 the present rifle bolt to which the attachment is attached.
Numeral 5, the rifle gun stock. Numeral 6, the composition fabric lining or any other lining of any nature to hold the attachment firmly in place.
The attachment or improvement operates as follows:
The downward pressure on the attachment bolt, numeral 1, raises the right or left-hand rifle bolt; a backward motion (the same as the operation of any ordinary bolt action rifle) throws the empty shell; and reloads the chamber of the rifle by a forward and 59 upward motion.
mammali- 1931. Serial No. 533,914.
The attachment may be attached by the five screws, socket and liner, and any other form of attachment to the original rifle bolt. The attachment may be made of any metal or material that is suitable for the purpose intended.
I claim:
1. A bolt handle attachment adapted to be secured to the handle of the chamber closing bolt of a bolt action rifle, consisting of clamped means adapted to frictionally engage a bolt handle, an upwardly extending portion, a curved portion, and a normally downwardly extending portion, forming one continuous operating handle so disposed so as to partially encircle the stock of the gun to which it is secured.
2. An attachment adapted to be secured to the operating handle of the bolt of a bolt action rifle consisting of a curved body portion, so arranged as to extend substantially half way around the stock of the rifle to which it is attached, a bolt handle receiving socket formed at one end of said body memher, a bottom socket clamp arranged to accommodate the handle of a bolt, and means for securing said bottom socket clamp to said body portion.
3. A curved attachment for the bolt handle of a bolt action rifle having a body portion, a recess in one end of said body portion adapted to receive the bolt handle, a bottom socket clamp adapted to co-act with said socket to securely engage the bolt handle and means for securing said bottom socket clamp to said attachment.
