J. STONE HEAOOOK, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT IN LAWN-SPRINKLERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,628, dated March 20, 1877; application filed August 9, 1876.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J. STONE HEAGCOCK, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Lawn-Sprinklers, which improvements are fully set forth in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.
This invention. relates to a sprinkler designed to deliver the water in a number of radial streams issuing in a horizontal or slightly-elevated direction from the upper end of a vertical pipe or nozzle, while all vertical streams are dispensed with, whereby the entire power of the water is applied to the lateral streams, so as to force the water to the greatest possible distance.
In the accompanying drawing. is represented a vertical section of my improved lawnsprinkler.
A represents the vertical water pipe or nozzle; B, the base-support thereof; G, the hoseconnection, arranged at the lower end of the pipe A; and D, the sprinkler, arranged at the upper end thereof. The sprinkler I) is made in the form of a conical frustum or larger at the base than at the top, and constructed with a close top, while its inclined sides are provided with holes or perforations d, as clearly shown.
The water, entering the hollow sprinkler D from the pipe A, is forced out through the openings din the side of the sprinkler, and delivered in a great number of fine streams, issuing in a radial direction from the sprinkler, and covering a large circular area all around the same.
As no openings are provided in the top of the sprinkler D, the entire force of the water is applied to the radial streams, forcing the Water to a greater distance than it would be if additional openings were provided in the top.
My improved sprinkler is cheaply constructed, very efiicient, and presents a neat and ornamental appearance.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A lawn-sprinkler provided with a closed flat top and perforated beveled sides, cast in a single piece, and adapted to be used with a vertical nozzle or pipe, substantially as and for the purpose hereinbefore set forth.
2. The lawn-sprinkler D, composed of a closed flat top, and perforated inclined sides,
in combination with the vertical pipeAand base-support B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
