Description

NOV. 1, 1932. J MIERES 188 6 208 GARTER Filed Aug. 20. 1931 INVENTOE Patentecl Nov. 1, 1932 7 UNITED STATES JOSE MIERES, OF BUEI\TOS AIRES, ARGENTINA GARTER Application filed August 20, 1931. Serial N0. 558,279.
This invention relates to garters and the like, and particularly to garment supporting means 01 garter type.
The main object-s oi this invention are to provicle an improvecl forma of garter for supporting garments, such as socks, stockings, gloves ancl the l1ke; ancl to prov1de an 1mproved arrangement of garter fastemng means which Will permit the garter t be concealed by'the garment so be supported.
An illustrative embodiment of this inventoin is shown in the accompanying clrawing,
in Which: v
Figure l is a perspeetive view of a complece garter showing the clasp or garment holding means in open or inoperative position.
Fig. 2 shows front an d side details of the clasp.
In the form shown, the improvecl gart er comprises a strip 1 of elastic material such as rubber, adaptecl to encircle the li1nb 0f the wearer. The inner surface of the strip 1 is made up of a flat surface, pitted with closely spacecl clepressions 2, Which have the eflect of euppings to retain the garter in position upon the limb. The clepressions enable the strip to adhere to the skin without eausing (lisco1nfort t0 alle wearer, since the pressure requirecl to make p10per contact with the skin is very slight.
The strip 1 is also provided with a plurality of apertures 3 adjacent its marginal edges.
Buttons & are inserted in two of the apertures 3 at one of the remote ends of the strip l and are adapted 130 engage two 0f the apertures in the opposite end of the strip and form a band. The strip is also proviclecl with markings, as indicated at 5, 0n which it may be shortenecl by cutting.
A clasp 7 comprises a flat, flexible, elastic strip shaped to form a bocly having an integral tongue 9 on one end and in, the same plane therewith. A headed stnd 6 is attached to saicl body near its other end. The stud 6 is preferably macle of metal or other rigid materia]. and has a base embeddecl in the body part of tl1e clasp from which the headecl sind projects. The tongued end of the clasp is provided with an eye 10 of smaller gagement therewith, ancl saicl tongue having diameter than the liead of the stud 6, and the margins of this eye are of rubber so that it v will yield when it engages 01 disengages the sind.
The tongue 9 is also providecl with a metallic Wire reinforcement 8 around its outer marginal eolge which stiflens tl1e tongue to facilitate manipulating it but leaves the inner margin 0f the eye free to yielcl when it en gages and disengages with the stud 6.
In operation, the stud of the clasp is inserted through one of the perforations 3 in the strip, and from the inner face of the garter strip 1 so that the heacl of the stucl projeets outward through the strip. A hen1 of a garment is placed over the strip 1 and the tongued end of the elasp is bent over the ouoer face of the strip ancl over the garment; then the eye 10 is sprung over the head on the stucl, thereby holcling tlle garment on the garter. Any nurnber of clasps .may be used. in connection with this type of garter, as may be necessary or desirable.
Although lout one specific embodiment of this invention has been herein shovvn and clescribed, it Will be understood that certain details of the construction shown 1nay be alterecl or omitted without departing from tl1e spirit of this invention as defiiied by the following claims:
l; A clasp comprising a flat flexible strip shaped to ferne a body with an integral tongue atone end and in the same plane therewith, and a headecl stud attached to said body and acljacent the encl opposite said tongue, saicl tongue being pfovided with an eye of smaller diameter than the head of said stucl and having an elastic margin for en a stifl reinforcement around its outer marginal eclges and spacecl away from said eye so that the margin of said eye Will yield when it engages and disengages saicl stucl.
2. A clasp comprising a fiat flexible strip shaped to form a body with an integral tongue at one end and. in the same plane therevvith, and a. headecl stucl attaehed to said body and adjacent the encl opposite said tongue, saiol tongue being provided with an eye of smaller diameterthan the head 015 said stud am]. having an elastic margin f0r engagement therewith, und said tongue having a wire reinforcement around its outer marginal edges and spaced away from said eye so that the margin of said eye Will yield when it engages and disengages said stud.
