Description

Oct. 25, .1932. c. BOLZ COLLAPSIBLE TUBE DISPENSING MEANS Filed March 27. 1951 Charles 5012 INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Oct. 25, 1932 PATENT orrlcs r: B012, 01' JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY COLLAPSIBLE TUBE DISPENSING MEANS Application filed March 27, 1931.
My resent invention has reference to a collapsible tube employed as a container for tooth paste or the like, and my object is the construction of a tube for this purpose and a means for collapsin the same-by winding the tube upon itself rom its closed end so that the paste is controlled in its delivery from the tube and also whereby the entire contents of the tube will be forced therefrom,
and thereby obviating the waste of the contents which is almost a necessity in the ordinary construction of collapsible tubes.
The foregoing advantages, and others which will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, may be obtained by the simple construction, combination and operative association of elements such as is disclosed by the accom anying drawing, set forth in the following escription and pointed out with particularity in the appended claims.
In the drawing: y Figure 1 is a plan view of a tube in accordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation looking toward the rear end thereof.
Figure 3 is a plan view of the strip that provides the ears.
Figure ,4 is a fragmentary plan view illustrating another manner of attaching the ears. Figure 5 is a side elevation of the device disclosed by Figure 4.
Figure 6 is a plan view of the closing or sealing strip. Figure 7' a plan view of the metal ear employed in connection with the sealing strip disclosed by Figs. 4, 5 and 6.
Figure 8 is a plan view of the winding key. Figure Si is a. sectional view on the line 9-9 of Figure 8.
In general the construction of the collapsible tube 1 is of the ordinary type, the same having its reduced and exteriorly threaded mouth portion normally closed by a cap 2.
The rear flattened and folded end 1 of the tube, in the present instance, is closed and sealed by a metal strip 13 which is centrally bent upon itself and thereafter compressed against the said end of the tube 1. The strip 13 is centrally formed with lateral ear ex- Serial No. 525,807.
tensions 15 which are bent over the folded outer faces of the cross-sectionally substantially U-shaped strip 13 and are from thence extended in lapping and contacting engagement. The ear extensions, adjacent to the outer and rounded endsthereof, have aliuing apertures 16 and these apertures are designed to be engaged by an arched finger 18 that is formed on and provides a bit for the shank lt) of a key 20. The key is illustrated by Figures 8 and 9 of the drawing. The shank 19 of the key is round in cross section so that the ears and the sealing strip can be readily rolled therearound when the key is turned. The turning of the key compresses the tube to force the paste therein through the mouth thereof when the cap 2 is removed. The turning of the key permits of the ejection of the paste in desired quantities and all of the paste will be forced out of the tube 1 when the collapsible tube is fully wound around the shank 19 of the key.
In Fi res 4 and 5 the reinforcing stripfor the c osed end 21 of the collapsible tube 1 difiers from that just described, inasmuch as a fiat metal strip 22 is centrally folded upon itself to receive therein the end 21 of the tube and to be compressed against said end. The strip 22 is centrally provided with a longitudinal opening 24 and prior to its arrangement on the end 21 of the tube 1 there is passed through this opening a'metal ear member 25 whose outer end is rounded and whose straight inner end has its corners formed with lateral extensions in the nature of lugs 26 to contact with the inner rounded wall 23 of the bent strip 22 and likewise to contact with the outer surface of the folded and 21 of the tube 1. The ear is provided with an opening 27 for the bit 18 on the shank 19 oi W the key 20. The strip 22, before the same is folded upon itself, is illustrated by hi 8 of the drawing and the ear is best iiiustra by Figure 7 of the drawing. Tn compressing the sealing strips against the closed ends of the tubes 1 the machine employed for this purpose preferably forms the opposite faces of the strips with lines of indentures to aflord inwardly projecting or bitingportions.
. Having described the invention, I claim:
1. A collapsible tube having its open end folded llipon itself to close the same, a cross- 1 section y U-shaped Loom ressible sealing strip arranged over the sai end, compresse there ainst and having indentures entering said tu and said sealin stri having a central opening therethrou a ndable plate comprising an ear mem r having its corners at one of its ends, formed with lug ex tensions, said ear having its bodx) passed through the opening in the strip to nng its lugs in contact with the inner rounded Wall of the strip, and said ear designed to be engaged by a winding key.
u 2. A collapsible tube having an open end, a bendable element ca ing an ear arranged over, secured to and c osing the said open end of the tube, and a key which includes a cross-sectionally round shank and a curved 20 bit extending angularly from the shank to be passed through the ear.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
CHARLES BOLZ.
