ATTORNEY Patented Oct. 25, 1932 UNITED STATES- PATENT, OFFICE WALTER H. TOELLE, CF WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, ASSIGNOR TO H. L. JUDD COM- .PANY; INC., OF WALLINGFORD, CONNECTICUT, A CORPORATION'OF DELAWARE BRACKET FOR CURTAIN RODS Application filed January 15, 1931. Serial N'o. 508,917.
My invention relates to a bracket for curtain rods particularly, but not exclusively, adapted for supportingthe ends of such rods. It is the principal object of the present in- Vention to provide a new and improved bracket for curtain rods, which is cheap to manufacture, serviceable in use, easy to apply, having comparatively few parts, and which will securely hold the curtain rod in place. V
Other objects and features of the invention will be pointed out or'will become apparent upon a reading of the specification.
' In the drawing which shows, for illustrative purposes only, a preferred form of the invention i Fig. 1 is a plan View of a curtain rod which is supported at the ends by brackets which embody features of my invention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the curtain rod and brackets shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a transverse section taken upon the plane of the line 3-3 in Fig. 2 showing a side view' of the bracket;
86 Fig.4 is a plan view of a modified form of my invention;
Fig. 5 is a front elevation of the device shown in Fig. 4;
Fig. 6 is atransverse section taken upon 80 the plane of the line 66 in Fig. 5, and showing a side view of the bracket shown in Figs. 1 and 5.
In said illustrative drawing, 10 represents a curtain rod. My invention is shown embodied in the brackets which support the rod at each end thereof. Each of these brackets is made in two parts, one being a bracket member 11 which is adapted to be attached to a wall, the other being a curtain rod holder by any convenient means, as by screws. The
front end of'the bracket member 11 is preferably channel-shaped so as to form a ver- -12 which is adapted to embrace the end of.
tical channel 13 which forms a pocket for the reception of the end of the rod holder 12. The rodholder 12 is adapted to be secured to the curtain rod 10. In the form shown in the drawing the curtain rod is held by friction in an opening in one end of the holder. The other end of the rod holder 12 conforms in shape to the channel 13 in the bracket member 11. One of the members 11 and 12 has a tongue which is adapted to fit in a suitable recess in the other of these members. In the form shown in the drawing, the rod holder 12 has a downwardly extending tongue 15 which functions as an offset lug adapted to fit within a pocket 14 in the bracket member 11 adjacent to the recess therein. One or two curtain rod pulleys 16 are pivoted at 17 to the rod holder 12. 18 is a separator which is employed when two pulleys 16 are used for the purpose of keeping separate the portions of the curtain cord passing over the two pulleys. Suitable means, such as a rivet 19, are employed to prevent the rod 10 from coming in contact with the pulleyslG. Holes 20 in the pocket 1 1 and in the tongue 15 register with each other so that when a curtain supporting hook is passed through these holes the bracket member 11 and the rod holder 12 will be locked together.
When the parts are assembled as in Figs. 1 and 2 it will be seen that the walls of the channel 13 hold the end of the holder 12 from displacement forward or backward while the tongue 15 resting in the pocket 14 supports the holder 12 and also prevents the holder from'escaping from the channel 13.
In the modified form of my invention shown in Figs. 4:, 5, and 6, 21 represents a curtain rod. The bracket consists of two parts, one of which is a bracket member 22 which is adapted to beattached to a wall,
' and the other of which is a rod holder 23 which is adapted to embrace the end of a curtain rod and to be removably secured to the bracket member22; The rear end of the bracket member 22 is bent so as to form a laterally extending ear which is adapted to bear against a wall and be secured thereto by any convenient means. At the front end of the member 22 is a channel formed by two upwardly extending arms 24-24 which conform in contour to a portion of the exterior of the rod holder 23, the extreme ends of the arms 24 being turned in slightly to grip the holder 23. These arms have sufficient springiness so that the rod holder can be forced between the inturned ends of the arms 24 so that the holder will make a snug fit with the member 22. The rod holder 23 is adapted to be secured to the rod 21. In the form shown in the drawing the curtain rod is held by friction in an opening in one end of the holder. The other end of the rod holder 23 is adapted to bear againstthe bracket member 22. One of the members 22 aud 23 has a tongue which is adapted to fit in a. suit-,
able recess in the other of these members. In the form shown in the drawing, the rod hold.- er 23 has a downwardly extending lug or tongue'26 which is adapted to pass through a slot 25 in the bracket member '22. The turned in ends of the arms 24 prevent the unintentional dislodgment of the bracket. Attached to the rod holder 23 are two or three plates 27 to which are pivotpulleys 28' by A hole 30 is proed one or two curtain cord means of the pivot 29. vided in the tongue 26 so that when a curtain supporting hook 31 (see Fig. 2) is passed through the hole 30 the rod holder 23 will be locked tothe bracket member 22. 7
While the invention has been described in considerable detail and specific forms embodied in end supports for curtain rods have been shown in the drawing, it is to be under stood that the invention may be otherwise embodied and employed in connection with brackets for curtain rods and the like of various types other than herein shown.
