This invention relates to hand-'cuffs for use by children in .play or for initiationor similar purposes.
It is the general object of my invention to provide hand-cuifs which are simple and economical in construction and which may be easily applied or released.
A further object is to provide hand-cuffs inl which the usual locking mechanism is re.
placed by a single yielding or resilient member which automatically snaps into holding relation with the frame or casing, and which may be released by direct manual pressure.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of part-s which `will be hereinafter described and more particu# larly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of the invention vis shown in the drawing, in which 10 Fig. 1 is a front elevation, partly iii section, ofmy improved handoufls, and
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view, takenV along the line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing,
gage the shoulder 18 on the frame 10. The I member 1l is held in rm engagement with the shoulder 18 by the resilience of the middle portion 19 of the member11.
50 The opening 17 is of suicient sizev so that I have shownv a pair of hand-cuffs, each one of which comprises a body or frame 10 and a holding the end portion20 of the member'fll canbe i depressed to release the holding member from the shoulder 18, as indicated in dotted lines` at the right 'in'Fig 1.

When the end portion 20 of the hold-i ing member 11 is depressed, the holding member mayA be swungfoutwardly to a sulicient extent to permit a hand to be inserted be# tween the holding member 11 and the frame 10.v Ordinarily, however, the end 20of the holding member is not entirely removed from the'opening 17 Y Y f After being applied to the intended wear,-
er, themember 11 may be movedinward to closely engage the wearers Wrist, whereupon the shoulder 18 will engage a selectedv notch I i,
IG Theyinember 11 may be 21 and will firmly retain the member 11 in holdin position. therea ter 4released by the direct application of manual pressure to the portion of the holding member which projects through theopening 17.
My `improved toy hand-cuffs thus firmly secure the `wearer but may be readily released without the use of a'key orl other unlocking device, are lthus particularly adapted for the use 'of children'at play orfor other similar purposes.`
Having thus describedfmy invention and i 1the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, other- .v
wise than as set forth in the claims, but what I-claini is Y 1. A toy formed of Va pair of connected l hand-cuffs each lof which comprises a frame having'side walls and a connecting portion along one edge thereof withv an opening. through said connecting portion, anda .sub-A st'antially U-shaped holding member pivoted at one end to said frame andv having itsrfree/ end portion' provided with notches onV its outer surface, and said notched end portion selectively and yieldingly engaging a shoulder on said frame when said free end" portion y is inserted through saidopening.
