This invention relates to hand-'cuffs for use by children in .play or for initiationor similar purposes.
It is the general object of my invention to provide hand-cuifs which are simple and economical in construction and which may be easily applied or released.
A further object is to provide hand-cuffs inl which the usual locking mechanism is re.
placed by a single yielding or resilient member which automatically snaps into holding relation with the frame or casing, and which may be released by direct manual pressure.
My invention further relates to arrangements and combinations of part-s which `will be hereinafter described and more particu# larly pointed out in the appended claims.
A preferred form of the invention vis shown in the drawing, in which 10 Fig. 1 is a front elevation, partly iii section, ofmy improved handoufls, and
Fig. 2 is a detail sectional view, takenV along the line 2 2 in Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawing,
member 11. Y i f The frame 10 is preferablyformed of sheet metal bent to the U-shaped section shown in Fig. 2 and having projections 12 connected in any convenient manner'as by a link 14. The holding member 11 is substantially U-shaped in outline and one end of the member 11 is positioned between the sides of the frame 10 5 and is pivoted therein on a stud or rivet 15.
gage the shoulder 18 on the frame 10. The I member 1l is held in rm engagement with the shoulder 18 by the resilience of the middle portion 19 of the member11.
50 The opening 17 is of suicient sizev so that I have shownv a pair of hand-cuffs, each one of which comprises a body or frame 10 and a holding the end portion20 of the member'fll canbe i depressed to release the holding member from the shoulder 18, as indicated in dotted lines` at the right 'in'Fig 1.
tion of my improved toy hand-cuffs, the util- Having described the details ofconstrucity and operation thereof will bereadily apv parent. When the end portion 20 of the hold-i ing member 11 is depressed, the holding member mayA be swungfoutwardly to a sulicient extent to permit a hand to be inserted be# tween the holding member 11 and the frame 10.v Ordinarily, however, the end 20of the holding member is not entirely removed from the'opening 17 Y Y f After being applied to the intended wear,-
er, themember 11 may be movedinward to closely engage the wearers Wrist, whereupon the shoulder 18 will engage a selectedv notch I i,
IG Theyinember 11 may be 21 and will firmly retain the member 11 in holdin position. therea ter 4released by the direct application of manual pressure to the portion of the holding member which projects through theopening 17.
My `improved toy hand-cuffs thus firmly secure the `wearer but may be readily released without the use of a'key orl other unlocking device, are lthus particularly adapted for the use 'of children'at play orfor other similar purposes.`
Having thus describedfmy invention and i 1the advantages thereof, I do not wish to be limited to the details herein disclosed, other- .v

2. Atoy formed of aA pairrof connectedl -hand-cuifseach of which comprises a frame having side Walls and a connecting portion alongv one edge thereof with an opening through said connecting portion, and a resilient holding member pivoted to said frame and having its free end portion extending through and projecting beyond said frame opening when in use, said end portion being providedtwithlnotches to engage a shoulder@A t on said frame and being releasable therefrom i PQE by direct manual pressure on the projecting end portion of said member.
