My invention relates to] clothes driers for. indoor use.

More particularly statedmy inventlon relates to an improved fixture to be mounted in a kitchen or. otherroomgof a house, this fixture being; preferably in the form of a casing andprovided with anumber of clothes armstobe detachably fitted into it. and thus supported, the parts being adapted for enabling the. clothes arms to be removed and replaced relatively to .the fixture, thus facilitating the removal and replacement of. garments upon the clothes arms.

While my improved. casing.- and clothes arms associated therewith may be-made up 1n different forms-as required, I here illustrate and describe only. asingle-form, which may be considered'as-typical.and in whichI use a; casing. somewhatin the form of. a rosette and. clothes armsadapted for this casing.

Reference is made to the accompanying drawing forming apart of. this specification, and. inwhich like lettersgindicate like parts throughout all ofthe figures.

Figure 5 is a fragmentary perspective of another form of my device.

A casingb, made of metal, is mountedupon a support 6 of any appropriate kind. This casing 5 is provided'lwith an outer wall .7 of annular form, and with an .innerwwall .8 also ofannular form, these two walls being concentric, asmay be understood from Figure 2.

12, 12. Each of these sockets has the formwof a hollow truncated cone, the hollow of which, at its outer end, is of slightly greater diameter than any one ofthe openings 11.

Each socket 12 is provided with ends-13 and 14, its outer end being larger than its inner end, each socketextends outwardly to some one of the openings 11,.and-covers the same, so that the hollow of the socket at-the outer end 13 thereof merges into the adjacent opening'll, andis slightly eccentric to this opening. The arrangement-is such that a portion 15 of the outer: wall7, bounded bythe opening 11, extends slightly. above the lower level of the hollow of the socket, as indicated in Figure 4, for the purpose of nor mally preventing the removal of the clothes arms, as hereinafter more fully described.

I provide a numbervofclothes arms 16, each being a straight stick of wood ofcylindrical form. Mounted upon one end of eachclothes arm 16 is abutton 17, made preferably of rubber a'ndofany appropriate form, serving as a barrier to preventthe garments to be dried from slipping oif'the end of the clothes arm. This button also servesto prevent the garments from touching/the ceiling.

Each clothes arm is further provided with a notch 18, for engagement with the extending portion 15'of the outer wall 7, as indi cated in Figure 8.

When any clothes arm 16 is resting. inits normal position it is strictly level; and engages the inner bottom surface of the tubular socket 12 throughout the entire length thereof. 7

To remove :theclothes arm, its "outer orfree Y end israised in order-to disengageqthe notch 18 from the extending portion15 OfitllG outer: wall 7 and this done, the clothes arm is pulled radially outward from the casing and tion, the scope of which is commensurate with thus disengaged.

In order to facilitate the removal and replacement of the clothes arm 16 it is provided with a collar 19, made in halves held together by bolts 20, and provided with a mouth 21 of substantially funnel shape, as indicated in Figure 4.

I provide a hand stick 22, having a tapered end portion 23, to be used as indicated at the left of Figure l and also in Figure 4.

In practice the operator thrusts the end portion 23 of the hand stick 22 into the mouth 21, or, what is essentially the same thing, fits the mouth 21 over the end portion 28; andv then, by means of the hand stick 22,,ra1ses the clothes arm 16 to the proximate'level of the casing'5. This done, by slightly tilting the clothes arm 16 as indicated by dotted lines at the left of Figure 3, the operator thrusts an end portion of the clothes arm into the opening 11 and brings the notch 18 down upon the extending edge portion 15, thus leaving the clothes arm horizontal, and therefore level.

To remove the clothes arm from the casing the operator simply follows the same steps inversely. That is, the hand stick is first thrust into the mouth 21, next raised, and then moved away from the casing.

24 and 25 to be dried are placed upon any or all of the clothes arms and the latter are then lifted into position as above described. When the garments have dried out, they are taken down by removing the clothes arms as above described.

In removing and replacing the clothes arms, the button 17 tends to prevent the garments from touching the ceiling. For this purpose the button propriate form. V

In Figure 5 I show another form of my improved clothes drier. In this instance a. fixture 26 is provided with walls 27 and28 integral with it. These parts constitute a casing, which may be cast, pressed or stamped in a single integral piece, as required. j

This casing is provided with an opening and carries a tubular socket12, this opening and socket being of substantiallythe kind above described with reference to Figure 3.

The form shown. in Figure 5 may be mounted in any suitable manner. For instance one or any larger number ofthese casings may be mounted upon a wall so as to project therefrom parallel to each other; or they may be secured to the ceiling, in any desired number.

Except as otherwise indicated, the structure and action of the form shown in Figure 5 is like that of the other form shown in Figures l to 3 and above described at length. V

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is as follows:

1. A clothes drier for indoor use, comprising a casing having an annular inner wall and an annular outerw'all disposed concentrically, the outer wall being provided with a plurality of openings, and a plurality of socket tubes equal to the number of said openings and connected with said inner wall and ex- I tending radially outward therefrom to said openings, the hollow of each socket tube communicating with one of said openings in said outer ring, and a plurality of clothes arms to be detachably thrustthrough said openings and into said socket tubes, and thus supported.

' 2. A clothes drier'for indoor use, compris ing a casing having an annular inner wall and an annular outer wall disposed concentrically, the outer wall being provided with a plurality of openings, and a plurality of socket tubes equal to the number of said openings, said socket tubes being connected with said inner wall and extending radially outward therefrom to said outer wall,'the hollow of each socket tube communicating with one of said openings, the axial center'of each socket tube being slightly out of alinement from the center of the opening with which it communicates, so that a portion of the wall of the outer ring as bounded bythe opening extends par.-

3. A clothes drier forindoor use, comprising a casing having an annular inner Wall and an annularouter wall disposed concentrically, the outer wall having a plurality of openings, a plurality of socket tubes connected with said inner wall and extending radially outward therefrom to said outer wall, each socket at its outer end being larger than the adjacent opening and fitting over the same eccen- 4.,1na clothes drierfor' indoor use, the combination of a, casing provided with an opening, a clothes arm to be detachably fitted into said opening and thus 'rendered'removable and replaceable relatively to said casing,

a connecting member mounted upon said clothes arm,and a hand stick provided with a portion for engagement with said connecting member, in order to enable said hand stick to be used for the removal and replacement of said clothes arm. 1

5. In a clothes drier for indoor use the combination of a supporting member provided with walls spaced apart, one of said walls having an opening, a socket tube extending from one of said walls to the other and partially in registry with said opening, and a clothes arm provided with an end portion for extending through said opening and detachably fitting into said socket tube, said clothes arm being further provided with means coacting with the wall having the opening for normally preventing the withdrawal of said end portion from said socket tube.

6. In a clothes drier for indoor use the combination of a supporting member provided with walls spaced apart, one of said walls having an opening, a socket tube extending from one of said walls to the other and partially in registry with said opening, and a clothes arm provided with an end portion for extending through said opening and detachably fitting into said socket tube, said clothes arm being further provided with a notch for fitting over one edge of said opening in order to normally prevent the withdrawal of said clothes arm from said socket tube.

7 In a clothes drier for indoor use the combination of a socket tube having the proximate form of a truncated cone, a wall connected with each end of said socket tube, the wall at the larger end of the socket tube being provided with a substantially circular opening of smaller diameter than the adjacent 10. A clothes drier comprising a clothes arm support formed with a substantially vertical wall part, said wall part having an opening therethrough and having a horizontally disposed tubular part extending therefrom as a continuation of said opening, and a clothes arm adapted to be thrust through said opening and into said tubular part, said clothes said tubular part, said clothes arm being formed with a notch adapted to interengage with said ledge to retain the clothes arm detachably in position.

In a clothes drier for indoor use the combination of a supporting member, a clothes arm to be detachably connected with said supporting member, a connecting member carried by said clothes arm and having a substantially bell shaped portion, and a hand stick provided with a tapered end and to be detachably thrust into said bell shaped portion in order to enable the operator to remove and replace the clothes arm.
