This invention relates toV garters and the like and more particularly to garter fastening means.

' The main objects of this invention are to provide an improvedV `form of garter for supporting garments vsuch as socks, stockings and the like, whereby a minimum amount oi" pressure is required to maintain the garter in position so that the circulation of the l0 blood and the movements of the body are unimpaired; to providea simple and ehcient means for retaining said garter in position on the body; and to provide an improved arrangement of garment fastening means which will permit the garter to be concealed by the garment to be supported.

An illustrative embodiment of this invention is shown in the accompanying drawing, in which:

In the 'form shown, the improved garter comprises an annular band of elastic material adapted to be slipped upon the limb of the wearer at any desired place. In assembling the construction, the plate 4 is inserted into the pocket 3 until the head of the stud 6 is opposite the opening in pocket 3. Asvthe pocket 3 is constructed of elasticma-4 terial, it readily yields to permit the insertion ot the plate 4 and stud 6 into the pocket 3 and allows the head of the' stud to Y be forced through the opening in the pocket 'and neck Y 75 .5, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.'

In operation, the band l yis slipped over the limb and positioned thereon so that it assumes the same position as the top ot a gar-V mentor stocking subsequently drawn upon the limb. In this position, the top of the garmentrwill conceal the garter and' since the head of the studV 6 'is covered thereby, Vitis only necessary to press the clasp/7 over the A garmentjS and stud, so that the stud will venter the large portion of the keyhole aperture in the clasp 7', which is then pushed upward-v ly .to clasp the garment.
