The lever 32 terminates in a hand grip 36, and is yieldab-ly supported normally in its upper position by a spring 37.

The goods to bebound, for instance a bundle of parquetry elements as indicated at 46 in Figure 1 is placed upon the table 14 and against the side member 12. The binder element 47 in tape form, and preferably of thin metal is supplied from a reel, indicated at 48, and first threaded between the grip cam 42 and the lever 39 thence between the knife edges 29 and 30 and thence entirely around the bundle 47 and the end of the tape extended for a short distance over the upper layer of the bundle asshown at 49 in Figure 1. By this means there are two thicknesses of the tape for a short distance on the upper face of the bundle, the friction of this overlapping may be su'liicient to prevent slipping when strain is applied, or the short portion 49 may be first secured to the bundle by a small nail or other means. When the tape is first applied the lever 39- with its grip cam device is elevated to the required extent, and
the grip cam moved to firmly clamp the tape to the lever 39 so that when the lever 39 is moved downward, a strong strain will be applied to the tape to bind it firmly around the bundle. When this is accomplished, the
tape will be secured to the bundle by apply- 7 ing a suitable fastening means such as one or more small nails driven through the overlapping portions of the tape at 49. The lever 36 is then operated to cause the cutter member 23 in coaction with the knife edge 29 to sever the tape and release the bound bundle.- This machine develops a speed of about eighty bundles to the hour, and the force applied on the tape is so great that with small exertion on the part of the operator the tape can be pulled apart.
The angle at which the cutting knives are ground and the simplicity of construction makes the cutting of the tape very easy.
The weight of the machine is about one hundred and fifty pounds, and may be secured to the floor by lag screws or other means and can be easily shifted from place to place. l
Having now described my invention, that which 1 claim to be new and desire to protect by Letters Patent, is:
1. A baling machine comprising a stand, a stretcher bar pivoted thereon, a tape cutter slidable upon the bar, a lever pivoted upon the bar and connected with the cutter, a spring for returning said lever, a second lever pivoted upon the bar and a tape gripping means pivoted upon the last mentioned lever.
2. A baling machine comprising a stand, a stretcher bar having angularly disposed ends pivoted thereon, a cutter slidably mounted upon the bar, a lever pivoted upon the bar and operatively connected with the cutter, a spring for returning said lever, a second lever pivoted upon the bar and" having an end adapted to engage the bar and a tape gripper mounted upon the second mentioned lever.

V 4. In a device of the character described comprising an adjustable stand and a frame therefor, a rod carried by the frame and a baling mechanism comprising a tape control, means for stretching the tape and a tape cutting mechanism.
5. In a device of the character described comprising an adjustable stand and a frame therefor, arod carried by the frame and a baling mechanism comprising a tape control, means for stretching the tape and a tape cutting mechanism, said cutting mechanism being lever operated and spring controlled.
6. The device as claimed in claim 5, said tape control is carried, said last lever being I hand operated, said tape control comprising a tape holding eccentric.
10. The device as claimed in claim 5, said means comprising a lever, upon which the tape control is carried, said last lever being hand operated, said tape control comprising a tape holding eccentric, said eccentric being lever operated.
11. A parquetry baling machine comprising an adjustable stand and a baler carried by said stand, said device including a pivoted bracket to which said baler is attached, said baler comprising a pivoted tape stretching lever fixed to said plate, and a cutting device for said tape, a link for operating said cutting device and a spring controlled lever for operating said link, said first lever carrying a tape holding eccentric, said eccentric being lever operated.
