JAR LIFTER Filed April 16, 1952 2 'Sheets-Sheet 2 Q lforney Patented Oct. 4, 1932 OFFICE' ROBERT E. GRACE, OF BARBERTON, OHIO JAR LIFTER Application filed April 16,
The present invention relates to a device for lifting jars and the like and has for its object to provide a device of this nature which is exceedingly simple in its construction, easy to manipulate, inexpensive to manufacture, thoroughly efficient and reliable in use and operation and otherwise well adapted to the purpose for which it is designed. Y
lVith the above and numerous other objects of the invention as will become apparent during the study of the following description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein: Y
Figure 1 is an elevation of the device ernbodying the features of my invention showing the same engaged with the neck of a jar.
Figure 2 is a similar view taken at right angles to that shown in Figure 1, and
Figure 8 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 8-3 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that numeral 5 denotes a bar, the upper end of which is bent to provide a handle 6. The bar 5 is provided intermediate its ends with a longitudinally extending slot 7.
A pair of rods 8 are twisted and curved at one end as atV 9 while the other ends are offset oppositely at 10. The extremities of the offset ends straddle the bar 5 and have a pin 11 therein extending through the slot 7 to slide in said slot 7 A pair of links 12 are pivoted to the end of the bar 5 as at 14 and pivoted to intermediate portions of the rod 8 as at 15. Arcuate jaws 16 are engaged on Y the extremities of the ends 9 as at 17 to engage with the neck of the jar. It will be seen that by lifting up on the handle 6 the links swing the rods 8 inwardly to engage the jaws 16 tightly with the jar. To release the jar 16 it is only necessary to push down on the handle 6.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantages of this invention will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art' without a more detailed description thereof.
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purpose of exemplification of the 4invention ashereinafter 1932. Serial No. 605,695.
since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description.
It will be apparent that changes in the de- C extending slot formed in an intermediate portion thereof, a pair of rods connectedat one end by a pin which extends through the slot, v
the other ends of the rods being curved inwardly, arcuate jaws on the extremities of Y 1 said other ends, and a pair of links pivoted to intermediate portions of the rods and pivoted to the end of the bar, offset at their ends ing their other ends twisted, said rods, said link and said bar being formed of flat material. j Y
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ROBERT E. GRACE.
