pear in the course of the following detailed description.
The invention consists in the novel construction, arrangement and combination of parts hereinafter more particularly described 2@ and claimed.
Two sheets of drawings accompany this specication as part hereof, in which like reference characters indicate like parts throughout.
Figure 1 is a perspective of the improved device assembled, but not in position in an excavation;
Figure 2 is a plan view of the device as applied to an excavation, indicating in dotted lines the break down position of the end parts; y
Figure 3 is a vertical transverse section taken on line 3 3 of Figure 1';
Figure 4 is a horizontal fragmentary cross section taken on line 4 4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a vertical section elevation, partly broken away, taken on line 5 5 of Figure 2 5 Figure 6 is an illustration of the interlocking device; and
Figure 7 is a fragmentary view in perspective of one end of an end member showing the swivel studs.
In accordance with the present invention, two side members 1 are provided which may be of wood or other suitablematerial, and if desired reinforced on their outer faces with angle irons 9. Adjacent each end of the side members 1 are positioned countersunk thimble members 8. End members 2 are provided,
jciating the outer ends of the end each end member consisting of two parts 3 3 adapted to have their ends abut centrally and each having in its outer end studs 7 adapted to project slightly to seat and swivel in the thimbles 8 of the side members.
The parts 3 3 of the end members are secured at their abutting ends by hinge members 4 secured on theouter faces thereof.
lThe abutting ends of the members 3 3 are also adapted to be interlocked by means of an interlocking device which as here illustrated, consists of a hasp member 5 and staple'member 6 secured respectivelyto the inner face of the end members.
In operation, the side members 1 are positioned against the side walls of the grave and the end members 'are then placed in position, which may be readily done by reason of the fact that the parts are hinged and can be bowed inwardly. `When in position, the dowel or stud members 7 will be seated in the thimbles 8, andthe end members willthus be prevented from lSliding inwardly on the side members. To remove the vdevice from the grave, the interlocking hasps l5 will be released and thefends bowed inwardly, thus releasing the side wall members and permitting the buckling in of the end members.
Various modifications will readily present themselves to those skilled in the art, but all within the scope of the present invention as p claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention,
1. A wall support for excavation comprising side members, and end members, each end member including two parts adapted to abut end to end, hinge means associating the abutting end parts, interlocking means associating the abutting ends of the end parts and means for removably and hingedly assoparts to the side members.
2. The structure ofl claim 1 in which the hinge means associating the abutting ends of the endparts are mounted on the outer face of said parts, and the interlocking means associating the abutting ends of the end parts are mounted on the inner face of said parts.
3. The structure of claim 1 in which the side members are provided with thimble sockets adjacent each end and the end members are provided with studs adapted to seat and swivel in said thimbles.
4. The structure of claim 1 in which the interlocking means between the adjacent ends of the end parts comprseshasp and staple members secured to the rinner faces of said parts respectively.` Y
In testimony whereof I aix my signature.
' BEN DANCER.
