This invention relates'to the construction of metallic frames for windows and the like, iprarticularly to metallic frames fashioned om sheet metal.
The object of my invention is to expedite assembling of the component perimetric parts which go into the making of metallic frames of the kind referred to, with a view toward securing such parts rigidly and per manently together at a minimum of expense as considered both from thestandpoint of labor-and material costs. v
How the foregoing advantages may be readily attainedin practice will be manifest from the detailed description whichfollows when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing;
Fig. I is a fragmentary elevation of the inside of a metallic window frame having its perimetric components secured together in accordance with my invention, certain portions of said frame being broken away and in section to expose important details.

Figs. V, VI, and VII are perspective views of three different types of tab pieces by aid of which the component parts of the window frame are secured together.
The window frame herein delineated comprises a head or top rail 10, a sill or bottom rail 11, and jamb or side rails whereof only one is shown at 12 all components being fashioned to hollow angular cross-section from comparatively thing sheet metal after more or less common practice in this art. Each of the jamb or side rails 12 is formed with a guide groove 13 for the sashesnot illustrated, and the sill or bottom rail 11 wlth a double step 14, against which the lower sash is adapted to close.
To secure the several described perimetric components 10, 11 and 12, of the window frame together, I provide tab pieces which are respectively designated by the numerals 15, 16 and 17 in the assemblies of Figs. I- IV, and separately detailed in perspective in head rail 10 and the sill rail 11, at the forward corner and frontal side of the window frame. Like the tab piece 16, the tab piece 17 of Fig. VII is in theform ofa'flat stamping, but,- in this instance, of irregular profile configuration, that is to say: one of its side edgesis stepped as at 17a, while from its bottom edge depends a tongue 17%. From Fig.
IV-it will be noted that the tab piece 17 is used centrally of the juncture between the jamb rail 12 and the sill rail 11 atthe in or .jamb side, and that it fills theiwidth. of the sash groove 13 to the top ledge of said sill rail, with its stepped'edge 17a coinciding with the stepping of the sill at 14.
