Description

' N. E. BARBER.
EXTENSION-TABLE SLIDES.
No .187,583. Patented Feb. go, 1877..
mfhewea; I I JW N.FE[ERS, FHOTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON. D C
UNITED S ATES PATENT QFFICE.
NATHAN E. BARBER, OF ST. LOUIS, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO ALBERT HOLMES, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION-TABLE SLIDES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 187,583, dated February 20, 1877; application filed January 19, 1877. i
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NATHAN E. BARBER, of St. Louis, in the. county of Gratiot and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Extension-Table Slides; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in \vhich-- Figures 1 and 2 represent perspective views of my improved table-slides.
Similar letters of reference in the aecompa nying drawings denote the same parts.
My invention has for its object to improve the construction of extension-table slides, with respect to increasing their strength, simplicity, and cheapness ofmanufacture; and it consists in certain details, hereinafter more fully described.
In the drawings I have shown the slides as constructed in three sections, A A A. Each section is provided with a central longitudinal groove, B, and an inclined or oblique groove, G. D are V shaped tongues, of wrought or cast iron, secured to the inner faces of thesections, near one end thereof, by screws or other suitable means, and the portion at being adapted to fit and slide within the groove 0.
E are central wooden tongues, located at one end of the groove B, in connection with the V-shaped tongues, to give great strength to the slides when extended, and also prevent an y lateral movement of the sections.
The cutting and grooving of the sections can be accomplished at any ordinary saw-mill, and the tongues can be manufactured and applied very cheaply and without difficulty.
To prevent the sections, when put together, from sliding apart, stops 8 are inserted in the end or" the'grooves G, as shown.
I claim as my invention- The combination of the V-shaped tongues D and oblique grooves O with the central groove B and tongue E, substaptially as described, for the purpose specified.
