SOLDERLESS VANITY CASE 7 Filed Jan. 18, 1932 Patented Aug. so, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE KARL R. LARSON, OF EAST DUNDEE, AND ELLISON S. IRELAN, F ELGIN, ILLINOIS, AS-

ations and finished, as desired, after which the various parts are assembled together by inserting hinge pins or forcing parts into frictional engagement.
As a suggestive embodiment of our invention, reference is made to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of the case with the parts in open position;
Fig. 2 is a view in sectional elevation of the back and bezel spaced apart to receive therebetween the case ring or cover assembly;
Fig. 3 is a view in sectional elevation of the case ring and cover assembly; and
Fig. 4 is a greatly enlarged sectional view of the assembled case with the parts in closed position.
The present case includes a back A from which projects an annular rim 10, and a bezel B having an opening 11 and an annular shoulder 12. The back and bezel, when assembled together, constitute the vanity case. A case ring C is assembled between the back and bezel adjacent the opening 11 to form an annular wall, there being hinge sleeves 13 extending from the case ring through a notch 14 in the bezel. The case ring is properly placed in the bezel adjacent the opening, whereupon the rim of the back is forced into frictional contact with the shoulder of the bezel to secure the case ring therebetween, as shown in Fig. 4. Together the back and case ring form an open-sided pocket.
A cover D is adapted to close the pocket in the case, and comprises a cover frame having a sleeve 21 for hingedly connecting the cover to the case ring. The frame is pro vided with an inturned flange 22 and a shoulder 23, the latter being adapted to frictionally receive a disk-shaped cap 24. Clamped between the flange and cap is a rouge ring 25 which forms the side walls of a rouge cake compartment. Fitted within the compartment is a rouge or powder cake 26 which is held therein by a retaining ring 27. Hinge sleeves 28 formed in the rouge ring extend through a notch 29 in the flange of the cover frame, and connect with a mirror 30 adapted to swing to a position shown in Fig. l.
A flat puff may be placed adjacent the rouge cake and heldthereagainst by the mirror, the puff in this case acting as a pad to prevent the mirror from contacting and breaking the rouge cake. The cover frame may be provided with a thumbpiece 36 to assist in opening the cover which is frictionally held in closed position by a detent 37 which abuts the case ring.
It will be seen that the case ring and rouge ring are held in place by a clamping action between adjacent parts, and that the mirror and cover'frame are secured to the rouge ring and case ring respectively by hinge pins. As none of the parts requires the use of solder in assembling, they may be preliminarily enameled, plated or decorated in any desired manner.
We claim:
1. In a vanity case, a back having an annular rim extending therefrom, a bezel having an opening therein, the bezel being pro- Vided'with a shoulder for engaging the rim to hold the bezel and back securely together, a case ring frictionally secured between the bezel and back adjacent the bezel opening to provide a compartment therein, and a cover hinged to the case ring and adapted to close the compartment.
2. In a vanity case, a back, a bezel having an opening therein secured to the back by frictional engagement therewith, a case ring secured between the back and bezel adjacent the opening, the case ring and back forming a compartment, and a cover hinged to the case ring adapted to close the compartment.
3. In a vanity case, a back, a bezel having an opening therein secured to the back by frictional engagement, a case ring secured between the back and bezel adjacent the opening, the case ring and back forming a compartment, and a cover having a rouge compartment therein hinged to the case ring and adapted to lie Within thering when in closed.
