p The invention is illustrated as embodied in a handbag frame comprising frame members 10 and 11, the terminals of which are pivoted together at 12 to enable the members to be closed against each other and to be opened in theact of closing and opening the handbag. In the present instance the frame member 11 is made all around with a flange 13 against the free edge of which the frame member 10 contacts when the bag is in closed condition.

Projecting inwardly from the inner face 14 of the frame member 10 is an elongated retainer piece 15 having an upstanding strip or flange 16 which, being opposite the said inner face 14, defines therewith a space or pocketl'?.

A catch slide, denoted generally by the reference character 18, is mounted directly to the horizontal portion 19 of the flange 18 so as to be moved longitudinally of the frame member. In the present exemplitication this catch slide comprises a rectangular body 20 with which is united a block-like part 21 having ornamental value and which may, if desired, constitute a setting for gems or stones. 2. Fastening means for bag frames having a pair of frame members connected together for movement toward and away from each other, said means comprising a lateral retainer piece on one member, an engageable strip forming an open pocket-space between it and said member, provided on said retainer piece, a slide, separate opposing bearing parts disposed in iatwise sliding contact kwith the outer and inner faces of the second member, one of said bearing plates being rigid with the slide, a shank uniting said `bearing parts and providing a rigid connection therebetween, there being an elongated slot in the second member between the outer and inner faces thereof and said shank eX- tending transversely through and being slidably fitted in said slot, and a projecting portion on said shank adapted, on movement of the slide in one direction, .to enter said pocket-space and engage behind said engageable strip.

3. Fastening means for bag frames embodying rst and second frames connected together for closing movement, the former having a laterally projecting top for abutment by the second frame when the frames are closed, said top having therein parallel elongated guide slots, a lateral retainer piece on the rst frame, an engageable strip forming an open space between it and the first frame, provided on said retainer piece, a slide flatwise slidable along said top, Shanks carried by the slide and slidably iitting said slots, a bearing plate having atwise sliding t on the underside of said top, rigidly connecting said shanks, an extension on one shank extending well below said bearing plate, said retainer piece, its open space and strip, all being positioned below said top and concealed thereby when the frames are in abutment, and said extension, on the movement of the slide in one direction, being adapted to enter said space and engage be- I hind said strip.
