I nventor ejb/ 222 ZJWM By @M man jlllorney Patented Aug. 23, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE IOHN G. ELDER, OF HARRISVILLE, AWEh/JI VIRGINIA Hun FULLER Application filed July 28, 1931. Serial No. 553,619.
the combinatin and arrangement of parts asy will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings: Figure l is a longitudinal section through a device embodying thevfeatures of my invention, showing the same applied. i
Figure 2 is a sectional view taken substantially on-the line 2-2 of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a side elevation. Y Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line lof Figure l.
Figure 5 is a detail elevation of one of the sections.
Figure 6 is a detail elevationof the nut and the screw, and
Figure 7 is a perspective view of a cap.V Referring to the drawings in detail it will be seen that numerals 5 denote two semicylindrical sections formed with inwardly directed semi-annular flanges 6 at one ,end and semi-annular inwardly directed flanges 7 at the other end, the flanges 7 being formed with notches 8. Flanges 6 engage in the annular groove 9 of the hub I-I. A nut 10 is formed with an outwardly directed annular flange 11 having lugs 12 projecting laterally therefrom. The lugs 12 are engaged in the notches 8. A sleeve 14 is then placed over the sections and secured in place by aset screw 15. Before the device is placed in engagement with the hub, a cap 16 is threaded on the outer end 17 of the axle and on the outer end of the cap there is 'formed a recess 18. A screw 19 is threaded through the nut indicated at 20 to engage in the recess 18.
The outerl end of the screw is formed with a nut like head 21 so that av wrench or the like may be engaged therewith. By turning the screw it will obviously be seen that the hub may be forced 0H of the axle shaft.
It is thought that the construction, operation, utility and advantagesof this inventionv f will now be quite apparent to those skilled in this art without a more detailed description thereof. v Y
The present embodiment of the invention has been described in considerable detail merely for the purposes of exemplification since in actual practice it attains the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the as v statement of the invention and the above description. Y
It will be apparent that changes in the details of construction, in the combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as hereinafter claimed or sacrificing any of its advantages.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
In a hub puller, a pair of complemental semi-circular sections having the opposed edges thereof in contact and having ythe rear terminal portions thereof provided with inwardly directed flanges, the inner corners of said flanges being provided with opposed notches cooperating in the formation of opp0`` sitely located recesses, a nut having an out-y wardly projecting annular flange between' said sections and engaged by the opposed surfaces of said first named flanges and being provided with oppositely located radial lugs received in said recesses, and a screw threaded through the nut, the forward portions of said sections being `provided with hub engaging means, and a collar surrounding said sections and having means securing the collar' on the sections, said notches being extended entirely through said flanges and opening out through the rear surfaces thereof.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
JOI-IN G, ELDER.
