PROTECTOR FOR TOILET SEATS Filed Aug. 18. 1951 I gwumtoz lyz'nzam T Simon Patented Aug. 23, 1932 Ul'f" TBS MIRIAM 'r. SIMON, or NA'IGI-IEZ, Missrssirri rnornoron roe TOILET s Atrs Application filed August 18, 1931. Serial N0.'55 7,848.
This invention relates to sanitary covers for toilet seats and it has for its general object the provision of a seat cover adapted to individual use, formed of paper or the like,
J5, and preferably of such character that it readily disintegrates in water so that it can be advantageously disposed of after use without risk of obstructing the plumbing.
One of the more specific objects of the in- I vention is to provide a seat cover of the type indicated which While normally flat, conforms to the inner edge of the seat aperture under the weight of the sitter, without the develop ment of tears or fissures in the concaved margin, thus ensuring complete protection from contact with the seat edges.
Another object of the invention is to provide the seat'cover in the form of a flexible sheet folded at a plurality of places to form pleats, said pleats being pasted together for a portion of their length but left free adjacent the margin of the aperture in the seat cover whereby to impart fullness to the latter, permitting it to conform to the edges of the hole in the seat without tearing, while the pasted down portions form reinforcing strips, assisting the seat cover which is made of more or less flimsy material, to lie flat upon the seat.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a seat cover, the forward edges of which shall extend beyond the seat sufficiently to be grasped and folded under the seat by raising the latter and then placing the seat down upon the underlyingcorners sothat the seat cover is held firmly in place. i 7
Another object of the invention is to provide a seat cover normally in flat shape so that it may be conveniently packaged for vending in coined controlled apparatus.
Other objects of the invention will appear as the following description of apreferred and practical embodimentthereof proceeds.
the forward corner tucked under the seat HFigure 2 is a'plan view of the seat cover in fiat cond1t1on;
h Figure-3 is a cross section through a portion of a toilet seat showing the seat cover with vand the marginal portion surroundingthe aperture being pressed into conformation with the edge of the hole .in the seat;
Figure a is a section taken along the line I 44 of Figure 3;
Figure '5 is a sectiontaken along the line 55 ofFigure2;and i I Figure 6 is a section taken along the line 6-6 of Figure 2. I
Referring now in detail to the several figures, numeral '1 represents the sheet preferably of tissue material, such as undressed paper, of such nature that it will readily disintegrate in vwater. It may be of any desired shape but is here shown as rectangular and being folded upon. itself at the three places where indicated'to form pleats 2. It isimmaterial how many pleats are formed but the folds should extend from the outside edge of thesheet to the periphery of the central aper- 5 in Figure 4, so as to permit the said marginal edge to expand as it is deflected inwardly into conformation with the hole in the seat aperture 3 are left free as is clearly shown at under the weight of the sitter, preventing its reinforcing strips to assist in the placing of under its forward edge without the fingers coming in contact with the seat. When the toilet seat is let down the corners 7 and 8 are held firmly, preventing the seat cover from slipping out of place.
Seat covers having the marginal portion Which surrounds the aperture pro-molded so as to conform to the seat are known, but such covers cannot be folded into small packages and are therefore too unwieldy for individual distribution and use. provide fiat flexible seat covers, folded so that they may be vended from dispensing machines but the marginal portions of such covers split when sat upon, bringing the body' into contact With the portions of the seat exposed through the torn places. The seat cover ofthe present invention has theadvantage that it may be folded into a perfectlyflat and :compact package adapted to automatic vending machines, and :at the same time .so constructed :as to avoid the risk of splitting of the inner marginal portion.
While 1 have in the above description, disclosed What I believe to be a preferred and practical embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that such changes may be maidein the constructionand arrangement of the parts as are permitted by :thezbreadth of the appendedclaim.
What I claim is: Pimite ctivecover for'toi'let seats -a;fiat\flexi=ble= sheetadapted to overl=ie the toilet seatand having an apenturendapted r-to regis .7

In testimony whereof 1 aflix mysignature. -MHRIAM TB. SIMON.
