The inscription or printed matter may be so applied as not to interfere with the operation or handling of the can during use and when the can is not in use it is immaterial whether or not the advertising matter has an advantageous or conspicuous position since the primary object of the invention is to so locate the advertising matter with respect to the can so that merchandise to be advertised will, by reason of the manipulation of the can, be presented to view in a most conspicuous and forcible manner.
The invention will be more fully understood by reference tothe following description together with the accompanying drawing in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a water can with' the spout fin positionS over the Water inlet of an'vautomobile radiator and showing advertising matter applied to the canin ac' cordance with. the present invention;
Fig-2 is* a view taken on lines 1lII in n Fis-'1; i Fig. 3 is a plan view of a frame or for holding a card orplacard;
tothe can and on-which printed matter may providing Van advertising dev'i-ceya4 can 9 may bev employed, such for examplet'as is used to supply water to an inlet 10 of an automol bile radiator 11.
' Y'The' ean9 is provid-ed with 'an upper harad die 12 and a lower handle or'grip' 13. Pro-A Jecting atan angle to the surface of the can islaspout 14 having an outlet nozzle 15. The

It has been observed that an Vadvantageous position forv advertising inatteris onthe said shield V,"16 either Idirectly Aor by providing a i removable frame orholder 17 4as shown. This .frame may be of thin sheetmetal ofsubstantially' the sameshape as thefupper surface ofthe shield 16'so'as to cover the samewhen Y Il posit-ion thereon.
For the'purpose of retaining the'frame'in place aplurality ofbendable ` ears 18, 19y and 20 are'provided; s The ears '18 and 19 may be bent "about'th-e inner edge'ofthe' `shield while L the ears 20 may bebent'to 'grip' the Y edge or bead 21 around the vcan top. Bendable clips 2,2"afrefalso provided'to'over-,lap -f and securein'place-a card 23 bearing suitable. advertisingmatterl' The' frame 17 may thus. be fixed totheshield andsinee the cards 231are removable they may be replaced from ktime to time` with others so that new adver-l tising matter maybe presented as desired'. Although the use of removablek cards may be Vof considerable advantage it `may Ybe "desirable to provide a 'plate having' advertis- -holdf ',Figl L Lshowsa removableplate'attachable ,Y VIn carrying'vout the present invention'of ificing matter printed directly thereon. For ter into the inlet of an automobile radiator.
this purpose a plate of metal or other suitable material may be provided. This plate may be of the same general shape as the outer surface of the shield 16 and may be formed With bendable members 26, 27 and 28.
The members 26 and 27 may be bent about the inner edge of the shield and the members 28 may be bent to grip the edge or bead of the can. Although it has been found pref- RUDOLPH A. TRANSUE.
erable to provide a sheetmetal frame or plate with integral ears or clips to secure the Jframe or plate in place it is to be understood that f other suitable securing means may be employed.
