EINSON, OF YONKERS, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR T ENSON-FREEMN CO., INC., OIE' LONG ISLAND CITVY, NEW YORK, A CORPORATION 0F NEW YORK lDISPLAY DEVICE Application led October 5, 1931. Serial No. 566,841.
The present invention relates to collapsihaving a back wall 2 and side walls. The
ble card display devices useful for adverbody 1 is provided with a step or steps 4, tising merchandise and other things. An it being understood that according to reobject of the invention is to provide a dequirements any reasonable number of steps vice simple in loperation and economical in ymay be provided. The stepped vertical pormanufacture, and another object is toprotions of the side walls 3 have flanged edges vide means for supporting the device in its 5 which offer means for securing the display erect or set up position.
According to the present inventionthe impreferably glued to said flanges and when lo proved device is composed of two or more in position stand one above and behind the sheets of paper-board, one sheet forming a other. Y supporting body for a plurality of added The back wall of the bodyl has an extensheets in the form of display cards or the sion 7 standing above and behind the toplilie which are secured to said. supporting most display card 6 and this extension 7 opbody in such a manner that one card will .crates as another display card standing promstand above and back of another card so as inently above the others so as to be a valuable to produce a tier or stepped relation therevadjunct as an advertisement in conjunction between. The cards are prepared so as to with said display card or cards 6. The body represent a number of cartons for merchanl, as stated, is collapsible being oldable on dise or other objects arranged in rows and crease'lines 8 located at points where the back collectively said rows can be prepared and Wall 2 is connected to ,the sidewalls 3 and at arranged to produce the effect of a stack the points where said side walls are conforming a pyramidal or other sha ed strucnected by the glue laps 5 to the display cards ture. Said supporting body is col apsible so 6. The body l with the back wall, side walls that the device will fold into a flat position; and the front display cards secured thereto means being provided on said body for re forms a tubular collapsible structure and taining the same in the set up or erected posiwhen erect both ends of said structure are tion and said body carries means forming an open. No closure means are required for extended base or support for the device so said open ends and which closure meanswith that it will stand lirmly in an upright disdevices of a similar kind in common use are play position. employed to retain the body in its erect or The invention will be more fully described set up position. In lieu of such closure means hereinafter with reference to the accompanylocated at the ends oi' the body; a folding ing drawing; whereiny strip 9 is partly cut from the back Wall and Figure l is a front elevation of the imarranged tohinge thereon. This retaining proved device shown in its standing or disstrip is 'placed at a point intermediate of the play position; v two vends of the body' and when folded in- Figure 2 is a rear elevation showing the Wardly'at right angles tosaid back wall, the device in the collapsed position; free edge thereof will bear against the back 40 Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on line of one of the secured display cards and there- 3 3 of Figure l; y Vedectually hold the device in its set up Figure 4 is an enlarged side elevation partposition. ly in section showing the improved device in Display devicesof the kind to which the the erected and display position; improved device belongs are usually of a Figure 5 is also an enlarged elevation comparatively shallow depth and may be showing the device in the collapsed position; comparatively high; therefore an extended and base must often be provided to hold the de- Figure 6 is a fragmentary view showing a Vice firmly in a standing position.'y An immoditication. proved device for this purpose is designed Referring to said drawing, l .is the body and said` device consists of integral portionsu cards 6 in position. These display cards are cut out from the back wall 2 and these porextending backwardly from the side walls of the device. As shown in Figure 2, these feet 10 lie flat when the device is collapsed and therefore these feet are not weakened by any creased or folding lines and will at all times project rigidly outwardly from the back wall b thereby providing a rigid and irmbase on which the device will stand firmly against any danger' of falling over'under reasonable conditions.
The improved device, it will be noted, is
very simple in construction and theseveral,
parts thereof maybe assembled and secured by machine operation. Inthemanufacture `of the device the blank forming the body is folded on the crease lines 8 and the 'display cards are located and adhesively secured-by means of the glue laps 5. The display'card or cards 6, after passing through the machine -or hand-folding operation, lie in the flat condition and are so delivered to the packer. When setting up the device the operator need only open the collapsed body and press down the retaining strip 9 into its operative positained in its set up position by the end clotions. With the present retaining means the strip 9 being cut from'the back wall consumes no extra-stock at all and one simple quick` operation will set the retaining strip in its operative position. IVith this strip located at closing of the strip 9 to allow the structure to collapse.
Modifications may be made in carrying out the details of the invention hereinbefore described and it is to be understood that any modification coming fairly within the terms of the appended claims shall be covered therey. I claim: A p
1. A display card device and support therefor, said support being of a tubular form having a back wall, sidewalls and open ends, said side walls having` steps, a display card secured to each step in front thereof, a portion cut from said back wall folding within said body so that the free end of said cut out p0rton bears against the back of a display card where-by said body is maintained in the set -vup position, and rigid or non-foldable por- 'tions cut from said back' wall forming feet' Aprojecting from said side walls providing an extended base for said body.
