This invention relates generallyto toys. More'particularly, myinvention relates to a certain new and useful improvement .in wheeled toys and has for its object the provision of a toy of the type stated, which is simple, inexpensive, durable and compact in structure, which is adapted for actuation under its own power generated and supplied by mechanism carried by the toy, which is readily bodily 'reversiblefor self-propulsion by some of its wheels functioning either as pushing or pulling members, which may be conviently braked against travel or movement in eitherYbody-position of the toy,and which is designed to afford pleasure and amuse ment to the child. V And with the above and other objects in view, my inventionresides in the novel features of form, construction, arrangement, and combination of parts hereinafter described and pointed out in the claims.

Referring now more in detail and by reference characters to the drawing, which illustrates a preferred embodiment of my invention, A designates the body of the toy, which is constructed of upstanding approximately oblong-rectangular preferably suitable sheet metal side walls 1 disposed in opyond the walls 1, as best seen in Figures 2 and 3, and fixed on the projecting ends ofthe axles 5, 5 are wheels 6,6, respectively, preferably equipped with ,enlarged preferably cushion ires i V Suitably mounted within and supported by the body A, is an actuating or propelling clock mechanism B, which is generally of any standard or approved type and hence a detaildescription thereof is here omitted.
However, in the presentv instance, as best seen in Figure 2, the power-spring 8 ofthe mech anism Bis mounted directly upon and attached to the axle 5, which latter thus forms adirect partof the mechanism B, the spring 8 being wound for driving on reverse vrotary movement of the axle 5 imparted through one or the other of its. attached wheels 6. Hence, to wind the spring 8 for storing or generating. driving-power in the mechanism B, one or the other of the wheels 6 is engaged by the child and the axle 5 thereby rotated' in a direction to wind the spring 8, the use of winding-keys or thelikebeing wholly, dispensed with, the spring 8 being held from unwinding atthe will. of the child through theapplication of a substantially standard type wheeled-toy governor brake' mechanism C controlled by a pivoted lever QJincluding. in the present instance opposed arms 9, 9", accessibly projecting outwardly through respectiveslots 10 providedfor the purpose in the body top and bottom walls whereby travel or movement ofthe toy may i be readily and conveniently [controlled in either body position of thetoy.

along the sides of the toy over the cone-positions 11 of both of the wheels 6, 6', the shields 12 being secured together by straps 13 and 14 extending, respectively, cross-wise under and over, and preferably attached, as by screws 15, to, the body A. The shields 12 are also of so-called cone-formation, as best seen while protecting the wheels 6, 6, to facilitate quick return of the toy to an even traveling base, should it be accidentally overturned.
As will be noted, the body A and wheels 6, 6, are preferably of such relative proportions that the body A is disposed within, as it may be said, the upper and lower peripheral planes of thewheels; Hence, as so constructed, the toy may be readily bodily reversed, so that, while always traveling in the same directiom'the wheels 6 function either as arear or front drive, or, in other words,

Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire 'toisecure ;by' Letters Patentis--- v '1. A bodily reversible wheeledtoy includ reversible for selectively superposing the bottom wall over the top wall and [vice versa 7 and the wheels at their respective treads beoutward relation to the wheel, the toy being bodily reversible for selectively superposing the bottom wall over the'top wall and vice versa and the wheels at their respective treads being exposed for ground engagement in either position of the body-portion.

A bodily reversible wheeled toy including,'in combination, a. plurality of 'wheels, axles connecting said wheels in tandem pair relation, a body-portion including top and bottomvwalls supported by said axles, a guard including opposed shields extending lengthwise along the opposite sides of thetoy and disposed laterally of the toy in spaced outward relation to the wheels, the toy being bodily reversible forselectively superposing I the bottom wall over the top wall and vice versa and the wheels at their respective treads being exposed for ground engagement in either position of the body-portion, and a supporting strap for the shields attached to and disposed transversely of the body-portion of the toy.
