My invention relates to certain improve-k ments in the rear foot plate of a locomotive. The object of the invention is tomake the foot plate structure in a single casting having forwardly extending arms, to which the side frames of the locomotive are secured, lateral arms carrying the upper rocker bearings and the furnace bearer, and also having a lateri ally extending bracket on one side, on which At the rear end of the structure are pads for the cab brackets.
in the accompanying drawings: Fig. 1 is a plan view of the improved rear i foot plate;
Fig. 2 is a side view; Fig. 3 is a rear view; F ig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional the line 4 4, Fig. 1; and
Fig.V 5 is a transverse sectional View on the line 5 5, Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings: 1 is the foot plate, which is made in a single casting having two longitudinal members 2 extending view on the full length of the foot plate and terminating at the forward end in arms 0. Each arm has Van upper flange 4v and a lower iiange 5, which are iocated between side frames 6,
shown by dotted lines in Fig. 1, and these e side frames are secured to the foot plate by bolts which pass through the perfcrations 7 in the body portion Aof the arms oiother fastening means. By this construction the foot plate is securely fastened to the side frame 8 is a horizontal web which connects rthe longitudinal members 2 2 and this web is perforated at 10, se that access may be had to the coupling member. The web 8 is cut away at the forward end, leaving tapered portions 9 9, which reinforce the arms 3 to which the side members of the frame are secured. At the rear of the foot-plate is a transverse bumper plate 11, which has `an upwardly projecting flange 12 and a projecting rib 13. The fiange 12 has pads to which are secured the cab brackets, the brackets resting on the ribs 13. The cab brackets are secured to the upstanding ribs 12 by bolts or other suitable fastenings.
Extending laterally from the longitudinal members 2 are arms 14, in which are the bearings 15 fort-he upper rockers of the trailingrtruck, andmounted on these arms are the furnace bearers 16, and secured to these bearersl are the furnace bearer. plates 1 7, shownby dotted lines in Fig. 1 and ful-llines in Figs. 2 and 3. f y
- Projecting from one sideof the structure is a 'bracket 18, which supports the feedv pump and on the upper surface of this bracket are pads 19 on which the pump is mounted. fThe bolts which fasten the pump to thebrackets extend through/holes 2O 'in the pads, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. r1`he bracket is reinforced by a series of ribs. The forward rib 21 extends' to the extremefouterV end of the bracket, while the rea-r rib 22 extendsl only part way so as not to interfere with the pump, and the intermediate ribs 23 onlyextend to a point inline with the inner ends of the pads 19. @n the underside of `the bracket are shallow ribs `24 which extend to the eXtreme end of the brackets and also extend underthe plate 25, forming the bottom of the opening l26`for the coupling member, and projecting upwardlyv from this plate is a lower bearing 27, in` which is an opening 28 for the coupling pin. A plate 29 forms the top of the opening^26 and has a bearing 30v in which is .an
opening 31 in line with the opening 28 for the coupling pin (Fig. 4). v
' 32 is a transverse vertical web extending from one longitudinal member 2 to the other longitudinal member andis connected tothe horizontal web 8 and the plate 29, and the lower bearing 27. A rib 33 projects from this plate in the lower edge of the longitudinal membersy 2 andV istapered at its outer end n the same manner as the tapered por tions 9 of the horizontal weby 8; rlhe vertiv-e ,ofthe elements are cast integral therewith,
and especially the support for the feed pump whichprojects at onesideof the structure between theI arms 14 and the bumper plate-11.
