Description

COMBINED TELEPHONE RECEIVER AND TRANSMITTER SET Filed July 11, 1931 gnaw/"too 61 Siabili Patented July 5, 1932 eroaoonmo STABILI, or moERIsvILLE, PENNSYLVANIA COMBINED TELEPHONE EEoEIvEn AND TRANSMITTER SET Application filed July 11,
This invention relates to a combined telephone receiver and transmitter set and has relation more particularly to an apparatus of this kind wherein the transmitter is readily separated from the stand or support for the set, and it is an object of the invention to provide means whereby, after a transmitter has been removed, unauthorized use of the telephone set is prevented.
Another object of the invention is to provide a set of this kind wherein the transmitter is removable from the supporting stand for the set and wherein means are provided adapted to be arranged upon the stand 15 in a manner and in a position to prevent unauthorized application of a transmitter to the stand or support.
The invention also has for an object to provide means whereby the supporting hook 3 0 for the receiver for the set is positivelylheld against movement in a direction, as is well known, to close the operating circuit for the telephone set or apparatus and thus providing additional means to prevent unauthorized use of the apparatus.
The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts of my improved combined telephone receiver and transmitter set whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
The novel features of my'invention will hereinafter be definitely claimed.
In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the accompanying drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a view in elevation of a combined telephone transmitter and receiving set or apparatus having applied thereto a locking means constructed in accordance with 1931. serial No. 550,155. r I I an embodiment ofmyjinvention, thetransmitter being shown omitted; I Figure 2 is a fragmentary view in top-plan of the structure as illustrated in Figure, 1; Figure 3 is a view in side elevation'of the upper portion of the structure as illustrated in Figure 1 with the apparatus. quarter turned, the locking means being shown in lines in working position, a second positinn of such means being lines c Figure 4 is an elevational view ofthe separable transmitter comprised in the set or apparatus.
As disclosed in the accompanying draw-1, ving, 1 denotes a stand or support of aacon- 0 ventional type which isadapted to havezdetachably engaged with the upper end portion thereof a transmitter 2. The transmitter 2, as is clearly illustrated in Figure 1, com- 65 :prises in its structure a plug 3 adapted to be received within a required socket 3"provided in the upper portion of the stand 1 as indicated by broken lines in Figure 2. These eatures, however, are well known and form 24, no particular part of my present invention and, therefore, a detailed description and illustration thereof is not believed to be necessary. i l y Y Hingedly connected, as at 4, to a side margi nal portion of the top or upper face of the stand or support 1 is a fiat plate 5 adapted to completelyx-overlie the upper or outer'end face of the stand:or. support 1 and thereby, when in such position, prevent application :5,, of the transmitter 2 into working position withrespect to the support or stand 1. This plate 5 at apoint substantiall'y' diametrically opposed to its hinged mounting 4 hashingedly connected thereto,as-'at'6, an "35 elongated arm or hasp 7- adapted to be swung down alongside :of the upper or outer por tion of the stand or support 1' in closed position with'respect thereto; When the armor hasp 7 is in this position a staple 8 carried to indicated by broken by the stand or support 1 is disposed through the opening or slot 9 in the arm or hasp 7 and through the extended portion of the staple 8 is adapted to be engaged the shackle 10 of a conventional lock 11. When the shackle 10 is looked after being applied through the staple 8, it is believed to be apparent that the plate 5 is eifectively held in desired overlying position upon the outer or upper end of the stand or support 1 whereby unauthorized use of the telephone set or apparatus is prevented.
This telephone set or apparatus also comprises the conventional receiver arm or fork the socket against insertion therein of the plug of the transmitter, an arm pivotally connected to the late, means for locking the arm to the stand to hold the plate in efiective position with respect to the socket, and an arm carried by the plate engaging the receiver hook when the plate is in position to close the socket whereby the arm of the plate holds the receiver hook against movement when the receiver is taken from the hook.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature. 7 I GIOACCHINO STABILI.
12 and in order to further lock the apparatus against unauthorized use, a marginal portion of the plate 5 is provided with anangularly disposed arm 14 which, when the plate is in overlying position upon the upper or outer end of the stand or support 1, closely approaches this arm or fork 12 and effectively prevents the same from having the required upward movement necessary to close the operating circuit for the telephone set.' From the foregoing description it is thought to be obvious that a combined telephone receiver and transmitter set constructfed in accordance with my invention is particularly well adapted for use by reason of the convenience and facility with which it maybe assembled and operated, and it will also be obvious that my invention is susceptible of some change and modification without departing from the principles and spirit thereof and for this reason I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to the precise arrangement and formation of the several parts the stand, a transmitter having a plug readily i insertible within or removable from the I socket, and means for closing the socket against insertion therein of the plug of the transmitter and for holding the receiver hook against movement when the receiver is free of such hook.
2. A. telephone set comprising a stand havmg a socket, a receiver hook associated with the stand, a transmitter having a plug readily insertible within or removable from the socket, a plate hingedly connected tothe stand and swinging int o a position to close I I the socket against insertion therein of the plug of the transmitter, an arm pivotally connected to the plate, and means for locking the arm to the stand to hold the plate in overlying position with respect to the socket.
3. A telephone set comprising a stand having a socket, a receiver hook associated with the stand, a transmitter having a plug readily insertible within or removable from the socket, a plate hingedly connected tothe stand and swinging into aposition to close
