My invention relates: tovegetable cutting Thepawl leve' rl9 'is fulcrumed one 'shaft devices and certain objects of theinvention are to provide a device for use in cutting'vegetables into cubes and "comprising stationary 5 transversely disposed bladesand a vertically movable blade; "Qtherobjects are to provide means whereby the cutting movement of the vertical blade is eliminated and whereby the vegetables are cut into rectangular strips 'only., Further'objects are to provide adjustable means whereby the device is adapted to cut vegetables into cubes of vari-. Oussizesff; 7 7
With the above andjother objects inview which will appear as the description proceeds,tl'1e invention consists of the novel eonstruction, adaptation, eombination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed. These'objectsare accomplished by devices illustrated in the" accompanying drawing; wherein: 1 7 1 Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device;
, Fig. 2 is aview in longitudinal vertical section taken substantially on a broken1ine2, 2 of'Fig. 1;
I Fig. 3 is a fragmentary detail View in per spective showing the stationary and movable blades mounted in-channel guidesg},
Fig; 4 isaview in perspective ojf one ofthe 39 multiple blade cutting members and g Fig. 5 is a view in perspective ofthe front end of the device.
' Referring to the drawing wherein like reference numerals indi'cate',lik e .parts, thej numeral 5 designates a rectangular container provided on one sidefwith an upstanding lug bearing 6. Abellcranklever? isffulcr'umed;
to 'sai'dlug bearing and theshort arm of said eXteriorly ofthecontainer. The rearend of said link member is bifurcated to receiver a pawl'lever 9 and said pawl lever 'is pivotally l andadjustablyconnected tosaid'link member by a pin 10 passing through holes inthe'lin'k bell crank has its end pivotally connected tor a link member 8 extendingrearwardlyfland- 12 that is mounted in bracket bearings 13 fixed to the rear'exterior end ofthe container 5. Thelower end ofsaid pawl lever has a r i rod 14 fixed thereto in parallel relation with 65 said shaft and itsouterendhas apaw1'15 pivotally mounted thereon'and disposedcentra'lly of the rear end of the container! j t The outer-extended end of said pawlis formed t into afin'ge'r rest'16 and a spring ll7 normally retain'sthe inner end of the pawl in engagementjwith "the/teeth of a rack bar '18. Said rack bar extends slidably'through a bearing 19'and fc'entrally into the container jand'its innerend is fixed to aplunger 20 that is slid ab y-disposed within and transversely of said container.- i j Referring to Fig. 2 1* the drawing: when the long arm of the bell crank lever 7 is moved downward to the dotted position, its short 7 arm will pivotally draw the link member 8- and the upper portion eithepawl lever '9 forward to the dottedpositionand the lowerportionof saidpawllever with its rod 14 'will' carry the 'pawl '15 backward to the dot,- ted" position. 'LWhenf the longarm portion of said bell crank is ag'ainpivotallylraised to the full' lineposition said pawl will slidablyfmove the rack barjl8andplunger' 20 forward. 'rhusa W111 be 'obviousthat said 86 a plunger may bemoved to the iforwardiend of e the container by repeating said movement.
Byho1dingjdown on the j-finger rest L16the pawl i sirelease'd fromengagement with" the .1 e 1 rack bar and the'plunger may be moved en- '3 tirely to the rear endof thefcontainerff k spring 21 fixed t OIlihQ-SlI OItaQImJOf the bell crank and tothe-container helps to raise {the long; arm ofithebellcrank' togits normalposi iongj 99 The forward and 6f, m lamine 5 is and has an upstanding channel guide mem- 22 fixed to either side thereof and the low} er portions of said guides areadaptedto re tain a pairof stationary multiplebladegiut- 9 tingf members designated respectively as a" whole by thernumerals' 23 and'24, "Said'cutv ting members are each thesame in c nstra tion and, as shfo'wnin Fig. 4, compriseapalr V of pporting frames25- retained in adjus able spaced apart relation by bolts 26 each having opposing screw threads on their respective ends. Said framemembers are each provided with corresponding spaced apart tongues 27 having a pin 28 disposed therethe horizontal positionandz theother with;
its blades in the vertical position. It will thus be apparent that said blades will-cut a vegetableinto rectangular strips when placed between the plunger and said blades and forced; through the blades by the aforesaid rack. and pawlI means.
lfAi movable cutting blade. is slidably dis} posed inthe channel .guides 22 in front of the stationary cuttingmembers 23 and 25L. Said blade is. normally retained in the. raised posi+ tion by a spring 31 having its. lower end mounted in a tubularportion 32 o'f one ofjsaid channel guides. and. its upper... end bearing against. a shoulder 33fi'xed to saidblade. As shown in fdetailfin. Fig. 3', said bladeis. held iniresilientjslidable engagement with the mull.- ti'ple. blade cuttingmember 23;by.aleafs-pring 34 fixed to saidlblade and bearing against the inside of the channel. guide, and .saidlspring allows the movable. cutting blade to. be forced outwardly fromthe stationary cutting blades by the. strips of vegetable on the. upward movement as will be.understood:v I V v The long'armportion of the bellcranklever Tisofisetat35 to bringits handleend portion 36.. in. a central position with. respect to r the container 5. Said handlefporti'on registers Witha verticalslot37 inth-e'cutting blade 30 and is its'elf provided-with-a slotfl38lf Lugs 39-are disposed at the: upper end of saidiverti calQslot. and. pin 40,. passing through said lugs and through. the handle slot,1pi votally and slidabl'y: connect. said cutting. blade to said handle. and bell crank; lever. 7 As. hereinbefore set forth, 1; each upward movementof the bell crank lever 7' causes the pawl to .pushthe plunger 20. toward the. cutting. blades and'thev springs 21 ancl31 assist in, said. upward movement. A vegetable placediwi'thin thecontain'er 5' in front of said plunger may thus beforced through the transversely disposed stationary blades and cut intorectangular strips. At each downward movement ofthe bell crank andthe handle 36* said pawl is movedback toa retracted posi tion andholdion the teethof the rack bar 18 and? the cuttingblade 30. cutsv ofl'equ'al. por
-tions. of.the rectangular vegetable strips By the slot 37 leaving the blade 30 in the raised position whereby the vegetable will be cut into rectangular strips only.
