This invention has relation to tobacco smokers appliances and has for its object the provision of a device in the form of a casing or reservoir adapted to be carried by the user by means of a shoulder strap, as is usual with field glasses, cameras and the like, and which is provided interiorly with means for storing a quantity of cigarettes or the like, also a supply of matches, and which is so constructed that a single cigarette at a time may be brought into suction relation to a smoking tube and the cigarette lighted and made ready for smoking. The purpose of the invention is to provide a smoker with means for conveniently and expeditiously supplying his want for a smoke without the necessity of taking a package of cigarettes from his pocket and lighting the same.

The device is especially intended for the use of military troops on march and .is likewise useful for travelers and tourists and is of such a character that the smoking habit may be safely indulged in in localities where fire casualties may be imminent from east away cigarettes while lighted and from the dropping of cigarettes or matches-in woods and forests where they may produce conflagration.

The invention consists in the provision of a device of the character referred to having the features hereinafter more particularly described and claimed. 7

The apparatus comprises a casing 1 preferably constructed of sheet metal and made in two communicating sections of circular formation in their wall portions. This casing is composed of a main body portion 2 and a lid like portion 8, hinged together at their lower extremities, the portion 3 being constructed and adapted to fit into the open side of the portion 2 and to be embraced by the edges of the former. When the casing is closed, the two parts are held together by means of a latch 4 and keeper 5. I

Within the wider part of the casing there is provided a drum composed of the two circular plates 6 and 7 respectively which are spaced apart in parallel relation and are connected together by means of a cylindrical wall 8. This drum is mounted on an axially arranged shaft 9, which passes through'hubs 9, 10"With which the plates 6 and 7 are provided and said shaft and hub bearings are of complementary square formation so as to rotate together. The ends of the shaft 9 are rounded and pass through corresponding openings in the front and back walls of the casing, so that the shaft and drum may be rotated together.

The plates 6 and 7 carry a plurality of tubular elements 10 circumferentially disposed and spaced apart as shown and each of these tubes? is constructed and adapted to receive a cigarette holder 11, which is also a tube of suitable material having a conical contracted end, and having a narrow aperture therethrough. These holders are removable but areadapted, when in place, to be held in close frictional contact with the tubes 10.

The plate 7 has attached to it, centrally, a plate 7 of smaller diameter than the plates 6 and 7 and such plate is connected by radial arms 72 to a cylindrical ring or flange 12, which embraces'the front ends of the tubes 10. Between the plate-7 and the ring12 there is fitted a wire gauze screen 13, against the inner surface of which the ends of the tubes and 11 abut. As will be herein explained more fully, the purpose of the wire gauze screen is to permit the passage of the cigarette lighting flames to reach the ends of the cigarettes.

The shaft 9 is turnable to bring the cigarettes into proper position for lighting and smoking, by means of a crank lever 14-, located. at one side of the casing and seating within a recess 15 formed in the casing. A dial or numberedring 16-encirclesthis recess and an aperture 17 in the crank lever allows the numbers to be seen therethrough. This dial serves to indicate the number of cigarettes which at any time may have been consumed.

Access is had to the interior of the casing for the purposes of replenishment, by swinging back the lid portion, which can only be done by unscrewing from the end of the shaft. 9, opposite the crank lever, the thumb nut 1'? which is screwed onto the correspondingly threaded endot the shaft, and in such position holds the body and lid'portions of the casing in locked position.

Upon the shaft 9 near one end thereof is fitted a match holder which comprises a hub 20, a ring 21 pierced at intervals for the protrusion of the matches, indicated by the numeral 21, and a disc 22 flanged to form the ring 21. The hub portion 20 is provided with a plurality of sockets 23 in radial relation to the holes in the ring; 21, and thematches are inserted through these holes and into the hub sockets so that their lighting ends will project beyond the ring. The matches have their heads in alignment with the cigarette holders, and for each holder there is supplied a separate match. The cigarette carrying drum and the match holder are rotated together so that for each. cigarette brought into position for lighting there will be a match. It is intended each match shall be lighted immediately before the cigarette is in smoking position, and

. for this purpose a friction block 25 is provided, aga nst which the head of a match will be rubbed or struck. This block is caried by a. spring 26 attached to the inside of the casing, and is in such position that the matches will strike or rub against the same as the cigarette carrying drum is rotated, such rotation being, of course, a step by step movement.

To prevent the flame from a lighted match reaching the other matches, the ring 21 carries on its outer surface a series of protective devices28, consistingof spring clamps or clips 29, between the jaws of which are clamped strips of asbestos cloth 29' so disposed as to shield the unlighted-matches from the flame of the lighted match. The clips are held in position by wires soldered to a ring 29 and passing between the jaws of the clips thence through holes in the ring 21.

In order that the cigarettes may be smoked, a long flexible tube 30 is provided, the inner end of which slips over a nipple 31 projecting through the end of the casing at a point opposite the uppermost of the series of cigarette holders. This nipple is formed with an enlarged cylindrical tube 32 which slidably passes through an opening in the wall of the casing, and is open at its inner end. A cylindrical tubular section 33 of india rubber is fitted to the interior of the tube 32 and is shaped at its inner end so as to fit over the end of a smoking or cigarette holding tube 11.

This tube 32 is located inside a cylindrical boss, projecting inwardly from the wall of the casing, and has a surrounding flange, between which and the wall of the casing is arranged aspiral spring 34 which tends to force the tube 32 inwardly and towards the opposing tube 11, so that it may receive the latter in its'open end and form an air and smoke tight ointi' I When it is desired to smoke a cigarette the tube 32is drawn outwardly by means of the pivoted loop 36 and rotated a distance to place the side arms 32a on the side shoulders 36a where thesame is temporarily retained with the tube 32 spaced from the drum and the cigarette holding-drum is then turned on its axis a sufficient distance to bring a cigarette into smoking position,.during which move-. ment a match is struck and the cigarette lighted therefrom.

Thetube 32 is then released and allowed to spring back, so that the rubber tube 32 will engage the tube 11. The smoker can then apply his mouth to the mouthpiece 40 and draw on the cigarette with the usual results. a V

he interior of the casing has wire gauze screen 40 running around its curved walls and spaced therefrom and designed and adapted to prevent the passage therethrough of foreign matter. This screen at one edge is separated from the adjacent wall of the easing by a sheet of asbestos paper or cloth 42.

Jentilating openings are provided in the walls of the casing, as indicated at 43 and 44, and the ventilating openings 43 may when desirable, be closed by. a hinged closure device 43'. The curved walls of and other parts of the casing may be lined with asbestos sheets to prevent h eat radiation.

The casing is intended to be carried at-the side of the user, and for this purpose is pro-' vided with a suitable shoulder strap 45, attached to loops 45, pivoted to the wall of the casing.

The device is charged with cigarettes by opening the casing, removing the holders 11, filling thesame with cigarettes and replacing them in position in the drum. The match holder is charged by inserting the matches in the match holders with their heads outr (at ward. In bringing a cigarette into position for lighting and smoking, the crank lever 14 is turned clockwise a proper distance during which movement a match is struck and lighted. The flame impinges on the screen 13, and is drawn through the same by the suction act of the smoker thus causing the cigarette to be fully lighted.

I claim 1. A device for the use of tobacco smokers comprising a portable casing constructed and adapted to be carried by a smoker, and containing a rotary cigarette reservoir adapted to contain a plurality of cigarettes and a rotary match reservoir adapted to hold a plurality of matches and means for simultaneously rotating the reservoirs whereby a cigarette may be brought into smoking position and a match associated therewith automatically lighted, a smoke tube attached to the casing through which a cigarette may be smoked.

A deviceof the character described and as claimed in claim 1, in which the cigarette reservoir consists of a rotatable drum, provided with circumferential tubes containing removable cigarette holders 3. A smokers device as claimed in claim 1, having a rotary shaft operable from the outside of the casing and journalled therein, the cigarette carrying reservoir and a match resvoir being keyed to the shaft.

4. A smokers device comprising a casing, a smoking tube connected thereto, a rotatable cigarette carrying drum within the casing,

means operable from the exterior of the casing for bringing cigarettes into smokable relation to the smoking tube, a rotary match holder rotatable with the cigarette carrying drum and a match lighter arranged and adapted to contact with a match to light the same, when a cigarette is being brought into position for smoking action.

5. A smokers device comprising a casing, a suction smoking tube attached thereto, a shoulder strap attached to the casing and means contained in the casing for storing therein a supply of cigarettes and a supply of matches to light the same, said means heinn arran ed and adaoted to brin the ci a- .e a l a rettes sucessively into smoking position rela tively to the suction tube, and to automatically light the same by the flame from the matches.

6. A device of the character described comprising a container for cigarettes and matches, a suction tube connected thereto, separate holders for cigarettes and matches, and automatic means operable from the exterior of the container for feeding cigarettes to the suction tube, and for li hting the same.

In a device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable cigarette carrier therein, a match holder rotatable with the carrier, a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular nipple normallyengaged with the adjacent end of a holder, a smoking tube attached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of the carrier, means for separating the nipple from a holder and means for rotating the carrier and match holder for igniting a match and positioning a new. cigarette holder in line with the nipple,

'In a device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable cigarette carrier therein, a match holder rotatable with the carrier, a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular nipple normally engaged with the adjacent end of a holder, a smoking tube attached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of-the carrier, means for separating the nipple from a holder means for rotating the carrier andmatch holderrfor igniting a match and positioning a new cigarette holder in line with the nipple, and means for holding the nipple disengaged from the cigarette holders.

9. In a device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable cigarette carrier therein a match holder rotatable with the carrier, a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular nipple normally engaged with the adjacent end of a holder, a smoking tube attached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of the carrier, means for separating the nipple from a holder and means for rotating the carrier and match holder for igniting a match and positioning a new cigarette holder in line with the nipple and a dial exteriorly of the casing and associated with the carrier rotating means for determining the position of the cigarette holding tubes relative to the nip- P 10. In a device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable cigarette carrier therein, a match holder rotatable with the carrier, a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular nipple normally engaged with the adjacent end of a holder, a smoking tube attached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of the carrier, means for separating the nipple from a holder and means for rotating the carrier and match holder for igniting a match and positioning a new cigarette holder in line, with the nipple, and means for holding the nipple disengaged from the cigarette holders and a dial exteriorly of the casing and associated with the carrier rotating means for determining the position of the cigarette holding tubes relative to the nipple.

11. In a device of the character described, a casing. a rotatable cigarette carrier therein, a match holder rotatable with the carrier, a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular ipple normally engaged with the adjacent end of a holder, a smoking tube at tached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of the carrier, meansiforseparating the nipple vfrom a holder and means for rotating the carrier and match holder for igniting a match and p0si tioning a new cigarette holder in line with the nipple, the match holder embodying a disk and an asbestos pad on the peripheral edge of the disk between each match to restrict the flame area.

Ina device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable cigarette carrier therein, a match holder rotatable with the carrier, a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular nipple normally engaged with the adjacent end-of a holder, a smoking tube attached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of the carrier, means for separating the nipple from a holder and means for rotating the carrier and match holder for igniting a match and positioning a new cigarette holder in line with the nipple, and means for holding the nipple disengaged from the cigarette holders, the match holder embodying a disk and anasbestos pad on the peripheral edge of the disk between each match to restrict the flame area.

13. In a device of the character described, a casing, a rotatable cigarette carrier therein, a match holder rotatable with the carrier,

a tubular holder for each cigarette, a tensioned tubular nipple normally engaged with the adjacent end of a holder, a smoking tube attached to the nipple, a match scratching plate adjacent the peripheral edge of the carrier, means for separating the nipple from a holder and means for rotating the carrier and match holder for igniting a match and positioning a new cigarette holder in line with thenipple, the-cigarette carrier embodying a drum having spaced walls rotatably mounted, the cigarette holding tubes arranged at the peripheral edge of the drum,

n being open at each end and a screen covering the ends of the tubes adjacent the match holder.
