Description
Patented June 21, 1932 UNITED STATES PAT SHAMPOO BOARD Application led `October 5, 1931. Serial No. 566,829.
The main object of this invention is to provide a sanitary shampoo board adapted to be mounted on a table or other horizontal surface adjacent to which a person having his hair shampooed sits, the device being so constructed and mounted that the water and suds drained from the hair will be captured by the board and drained into a suitable basin or container situated at or near the floor.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a device of the class described with an adjustable drain board supported upon a portable base, the angle of the board with respect to the horizontal being variable to suit the immediate requirements.
Still another object is to provide such a device with a plurality of separable component parts, so that the device may be readily cleaned and sterilized.
The above and other objects will become apparent in the description below, in which like-named parts are indicated by like-named characters of reference.
Referring briefly to the drawing, Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of the device.
Fig. 2 is a front elevational view of the device, with the drain board cut away to illustrate the support arms of the adjustable member.
Fig. 3 is a board.
Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the rotatably adjustable member in inverse position.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of the assembled device.
Referring in detail to the drawing, the numeral represents a base in the form of an inverted funnel provided with a'neck 11. A. second funnel-like member 12, whose neck 13 rests within the neck 11, is supported upon the base 10. The plane of the upper periphery of the funnel 12is tilted rearward, instead of being horizontal, so that any flat surface supported thereon will also tilt real ward.
Within the walls of the upper unnelelike member 12, a hollow hemispherical body 14 is seated, with its surface in contact with the inner walls of lthe member 12, so that by simple rotation the relative position of this body may be varied. Integral with, and properspective view of the drain Ya slightly `center of the board to to said board.
jecting from diametricallyV opposite sides of, this body, are resilient arms 15l having turned-in tongues 16 at the extremeties thereof.
The `drain board comprises asa sheet of flexible material 17 slightly bent to provide curved channel between its sides, and the latter are turned backtoward the provide guide Walls to constrain liquid iiowing along the board The front end of the board is providedywith a semi-circular cutout-19, from the periphery of which a similarly curved wall or collar 2O rises, thelatter being provided with a rounded or rolled edge 21. The board 17 is slipped over the body 14 between the fingers or tongues 16 of the resilient arms V15, in doing which the arms are first flexed backward to enable the board to pass between the tongues 16, and upon' release of the arms, the tongues securely hold the board on the body by means of the engagement between the tongues and the side walls 18 of the body, as shown in Fig. 2.
With the board adjusted so that the arms 15 are at about the middle ofthe length of the board, the body 14 is inserted into the funnel 12. It is now obvious that, since the OFFICE 21 board is supported by the bedy 14, and the v latter contacts only with the funnel 12, the angular position of the board 17 may be varied by merely rotating the body 14. The limit of such variation occurs upon contact of the board 17 with the edge of the funnel 12, but the amount between such opposite limits is sucientfor the purpose of the invention.l In use, with the person being shampooed being seated with his back to the table, and the shampooer working person, as is the common practice, the device .is mounted on the table with the collar 19 set against the upper part of the neck of the person, just below the hair line, and the head is bent back slightly against said collar. As people of various heights are thus treated, the adjustability of the level ofl the board as described enables the operatorto make the necessary adjustment to bring the collar into the position mentioned on the personv what-- walls of the-- of adjustability from in front of the v @ver his height within normal limits. While the operation is being performed, the Water and suds constantly draining oi the hair are Zij captured on the board after passing down the collar 20, and because of the tilt of the board they pass down the same and off -int-o a suitable receptaclewhioh may be placed on the floor. j
The use of this device obviates the necessity of having tobend over the Wash basin, yasy is usually required, and makes it simple for the operator to work in the persons home.
Obvious modiications inform and construction may be made without departing from the spirit and scope vofthe invention.
Iolaim':
A device of theiclass described comprising a base, a hollow support mounted on said base v and having its upper side open toy provide a socket, a curved body rotatably mounted in said socket and having diametrically onposed arms rigid therewith, said lupper si e having a peripheral edge, the plane passing through said edgeV lying at an Vangle to the horizontal, a board adapted to rest fon said arms, and tongues on the ends of said arms gripping the edges of said board.
In testimony whereof I aix Vmy signature.
